The 2008 genre challenge

Post by godix » Thu Dec 25, 2008 7:04 pm

Remember this?

Well I failed it. I did a few videos but only released one, which was an obvious joke, and deleted the rest. So feel free to mock me for failing my own challenge. But I have heard some others did do this challenge though so I'll revive the thing for followup.

The central idea wasn't to actually complete all the videos for different genres. The central idea was to expand beyond your usual editing style and try challenging yourself. So whoever did at least one video outside their normal style specifically because of this challenge congrats, you made the whole thing a success even though I personally neglected this thing worse than a ugly red headed stepchild.

I originally said there was no prize other than the satisfaction of challenging yourself but I'll expand that slightly, whoever did a video for the challenge post a link to it here and I will op it (eventually, I ain't fast on the ops). This will be a serious op pointing out what I think the good and bad of the video are, not one of my usual hate filled rants.

This is the only one that I probably released this year that went very far out of what I usually do, my first real trailer o_O

Yeah, I did that.

Action

Drama (non-romance)

Drama (romance)

Dance/Fun

Other

Comedy/Parody

Trailer (didn't do this one, i already have a pretty popular Kenshin trailer in my catalogue and I didn't feel like making one this year)

Effects whore

None of these were made exclusively for the challenge, but that thread inspired me to just do videos instead of thinking about meeting any standards or about whether people would like them or not. I just did everything I wanted to do and in review it means that I've made 2 action videos (Bloodlines is the second) instead of making a Trailer video, but apart from that I did one for all the categories. The non-romance drama video isn't all that much drama though. I would've linked to 'She Tried' so I could've chosen 'Stiller' for the romance category. But I added romance as a category to the Popotan video because I just HAD to have it be a lesbo video, so that's what I get for making them lesbians.

Not that any of these videos were intended for the genre challenge, but the three video I made last year were technically off my typical beat.

Action

Comedy

I can't remember if I was thinking of the challenge when I thought of this or not.
