NDK '08 Entries - Cogito Awakening, Winter's Toll

Here is a video I started a while back but never finished. I finally got around to finishing it up for the NDK 2008 AMV Contest that will be running this weekend. I figured I would post it to coincide with the con. I welcome all feedback, positive, negative, whatever. It was all done in Premiere besides the little title sequence I made for the version posted here.

Here is another video I had started but never finished until my NDK 2008 entry rush. I know the 5cm videos are a dime a dozen, and its the same footage, same style, yadda yadda. But I figured I would finish it anyway for NDK this year. Done all in premiere besides the quick title sequence. Posting it here to coincide with the NDK 2008 AMV Contest happening this weekend.

Thanks goes out to my beta testers as well!

edit: sorry to the mods for the separate posts. I guess I should have remembered to refresh myself on the etiquette

ok didn't watch the 5cms one... for obvious reasons.

about the ergo proxy vid, I really REALLY dested the music i dont know if you added sounds to the song or if the band just sucks that much but i had to turn it off after 20 seconds or destroy my speakers.... i like my speakers.
in that time though I saw some interesting scene work which was although random in both story development, in keeping with the whole "theme" of your video. Visual quality needed some work did you use raws or something? and the generic noise effect did nothing for the scenes you applied it too. The sync... tranisions were good... but not on the beat particualy well and the begining scenes although consistant with each other are too slow for the music as a whole.

Good song pick(despite my ears bleeding) and theme for this anime(<3 ergo), editing is decent but I just cant watch any more I'm affraid.

*edited to fix sick aut's worse than usual engrish and still phailed*
new banzors in the making :p

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure what you are referring to, I know the rip I got of the music was directly from the CD. I personally don't care for the band, or the song too much. It does have some weird mastering on it (intentional?). Some interesting distortion on the high end seems to be the most noticeable. The guitar also sounds somewhat distorted. Despite that, I don't find the song un-listenable. So I don't know if it was something technical or what.

Actually the footage was straight from the DVD's. I know how to properly rip footage and process it with avisynth. The quality I thought was pretty good. I also didn't get any complaints about the quality of the footage from my beta testers, even sending them h.264 encodes. Again, maybe some technical glitch? I also did not apply the noise effect. It was already on those scenes. They were Vincent's flashbacks...

After the fact I actually wished I had paced it better with cuts and footage. But as far as the beat sync being off, I heard exactly the opposite from those who were beta testing. I suppose maybe to some people the methods of sync I used were not good, but If you could provide details I could pinpoint whether it is just my methods, if it was technical, or maybe I was just a big FAIL in the beat-sync department...

And thanks for watching and providing feedback. Much appreciated!

I haven't got to the second one yet (no prejudice from me though), but the first was quite alright. I liked the editing and mood, and the story made sense. I think where it suffered a bit was pacing - besides the end, I think the dynamic changes in the music didn't always translate into dramatic visual changes, it sort of even stuck to the same scheme throughout...

But I like it. Definitely stands well on its own.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

The Ergo Proxy AMV was cool. I thought the scene selection was quite coherent and went well with the song. Editing itself was pretty solid too, but the sync felt kind of dull at parts in my opinion. Overall, it's a nice little video though and a good character profile as well.

Yeah you are definitely right. As i look back on it now, maybe faster cuts or use of filters and other subtle effects could have made it flow better with the changes in the music. Definitely something to keep a look out for when I tackle my next project.

Thanks man! I appreciate your input in the beta process as well. It helped a lot. :)

Yeah, I kind of regret not doing some beat sync to some other elements of the song at parts. I think it would have been cool to add some grunge effects on the strong guitar hits and things like that.

Thanks for watching everyone!
