"I'm new here"

Ok, so I confess... I'm not new here at all. I just wanted to get your attention because people seem to love opening these threads that sort of have similar titles to post over and over again the same message that the first reply said.

But, I'm not one to make a pointless thread... I do have a point

Anyway, I'm just wondering... who here started their life in the org with a post that stated something along the lines of "Help, I don't know how to make AMVs" or "Looking for DBZ/Linkin Park AMV"?

I started to collate data about a month back now just checking how often "Help me" posts sprout up in the org and though I gave up after about a week, I saw that these kinds of posts sprout out about once a day, much lower frequency than I thought, but still, it shows that they do come up everyday and we're not just dreaming it.

I feel that there needs to be a change in the structure of this forum. Site help or a new section titled "Post here if you're gonna ask a stupid question" or something should probably be placed at a fairly high spot on the forum.

Thoughts? Oh, and this probably belongs in a different forum, but I chose to put it here to actually get as many people to see the topic and perhaps comment, but move as you wish if you think it's the right thing for the good of the forums

And, you know, actually read the appropriate guides without being told to?

I started out asking for help with WMM, it sucked badly.

I didn't, but part of that was also because I didn't even start posting on the forums until late 2003 or early 2004, and I'd already been making videos (albeit crappy ones, for the most part - they at least gained more accuracy when I switched to Premiere in the June/July 2003, though) since mid 2002. Some of my earliest posts deal with getting help for AviSynth or creating a custom effect, actually. And spending an inordinate amount of posting time in the Opinion Exchange, which I only do once in a blue moon now.

I did post a 'looking for' thread at some point, though, but that was only after exhausting the Super Search and not finding them through a typical Internet search engine, so at least that's justified (and not DBZ either, they were mostly Ranma videos I was looking for).

I've started two posts on the forums since I started posting on the forums:

1. I was getting tired of reading complaints on a-m-v.org so I started one titled "We've heard the complaints.. now lets hear what you like"

2. Christmas MEP - for the first MEP I'm "coordinating" o.0

most of the questions I have had to ask, I have asked a friend via AIM or other IM... of course I didnt care to ask questions untill after I got feedback...

When I started I had no clue about anything, but I went ahead and made my videos anyways, I was too "scared" to post on the forums because I heard that it was a mean nasty place... so I would poke my head in every once in a while, but not really say anything...

Eventually I met a few people through opinions and whatnot, and I've learned alot from the feedback I got (and still do learn from the feedback)
and somehow people started knowing who I was... I figured eventually I had enough grounding to post in the forums...

I wouldnt have dared ask for step by step instructions when I started. Plus I figured out basics on my own... (IE: FINDING WMM and learning how to drop video/audio on the time line, muting video clips.. ect.)

I'm weird.. lol o.0

I think I was at the same situation. Though I made my first video before I went on the org. I actually didn't register online for quite sometime and only used my friend's account to download.

What I'm quite interested to know is how many people, after making these first posts asking for help, actually stay on afterwards. How often do they take the advice that is given to them?

im for the autobot that sends a pm to the user or posts in the thread "READ THE GUIDES/STICKES or try SEARCH" whenever the thread contains the word WMM + HELP.

Sorry for the double post.

I forgot anyway to say how I started. I actually began everything asking how was working the opinion exchange forum, since I was not that good at english those times, and I was misunderstanding the section.
