I think that it's kinda difficult to say that there are certain songs that absoultely could not be made into a good AMV, because in the right hands anything can be done well.
Buuut, for the topic's sake I would have to say that incredibly unpopular/bad music could make an AMV unwachable just because sometimes a viewer's musical preferences can really ruin something for someone. =/ Also anything that is incredibly old, not because it's bad, but because nearly any copy you could find, even remastered CDs, will have low and grainy quality.
One other type/genre of music that I don't see going over well with an AMV is anything done acapella. Likewise some instrumental pieces that are like a reeeeeeally slow flute solo (or anything equally calm and dead) wouldn't do well to hold one's interest.
Aaaand, those chrismas jingles where cats and dogs bark and meow our favorite carols (those cat Jingle Bells tapes drive me nuts!).
Lastly, I doubt that the song "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" could be done all too well. And I don't think I could bring myself to watch a vid made to Hoobastank's "The Reason" even if I were being thwarted with a stick that had nails in it! >_< But that's just a personal preference. =)
