Why no opinion grade for lyric synch?
I'm tired of people bragging about their 'action synch' which amounts to people fighting/jumping/bouncing to the music with NO PLOT.
How about a grade for how well the action on the screen matches the lyrics?

Oh yeah, feel the maturity in this room.
Kitsune, many people consider 'action sync' to be how well the clips (footage) was matched up to the audio - as inthesto said. The reason it's called 'action' sync is because most of the matching is mood matching and beat=clip cut matching.
You have to keep in mind that many people here think videos should be nothing but mood - no lyric sync, no point, no story - just mood and beat-sync. These people get very angry when you point out that lyrics are part of songs that need to be matched the same as the beats.
The problem with lyric sync - not that these 'mood only' fanatics care - is that a hundred people can interpret a single song dozens of different ways. Everyone can listen to the same hard rock song and hear the beats with no argument about 'this beat is loud so let's change the footage to match.' Matching the meaning of lyrics is a lot more complicated, so people can't grade on it accurately - who can say for sure if the creator matched the meaning you read when he sees a completely different meaning?
And besides that, 'mood only' fans would have you remove any and all meaning from lyrics - or cut them out and stick with instrumental songs. As long as they make up the majority, lyric sync is a moot point only important to those who believe videos can (should/are allowed to) have meaning besides matching of moods and beats.

Sometimes ignoring the lyrics of a song is the only thing (and the higher road) towards making the video that much better.
For example: If a song says it's snowing and you show rain, sun.
It can have a more powerfull impact, Why? Because the mood is there. The idea of it is that medafores are sometimes more powerful than words.
And just what the hell is wrong with that?
Lately you and a few other people around here have started to think anything you say is boss, I got news for you. You're not. Stop generilizing people. Just because I LOVE to have stuff on sync and have a specific mood in my video as opposed to listening to every lyric.
Doesnt make you better than me.

well..my 2nd AMV, Misery, has lyric sync...but you have to realize...if you get a lyric sync option in reviews...your goign to have a mass of people who put clips in that match the lyrics...yet do not add to the overall video its self.
I see lots of videos where they take scenes with items, or actions in them, that perfectly match the words...but not the meaning of the lyrics...or the synergy of the video. Haveing to be rated on your lyric sync is going to make a lot of people make REALLY shitty video's.
Now, if you would actualy pay attention and read the reviews of videos, you will see how their sync holds up....even if its not action based. There are lots of vids out there with NO action, yet they have high sync ratings because not only do they change scenes on cue with beats, but because a lot of whats going on in the scene itself is synced with the song. if you have a vid, and yet none of the scenes change on cue, or nothing matches up to the beat/tempo of the song...no matter if your vid is synced to lyrics....people are going to call it crap..because its easier to enjoy...and easier on the brain...if things like this match up.
Now...I am going to look to see if you have any vids out there....and if you sync to beats i am gonna come back here and call you a hypocrite...and also if your vid matches lyrics...but does not cue with the song...i am gonna come here...tell you its crap...and then say i told you so.

I wasn't posting about you and yours. Check the recent threads and look for the mini-discussion about how videos are not supposed to (and cannot, according to those experts) tell stories - that they are entirely mood and sync based. Then you'll realize my post had nothing to do with you, and everything to do with the issue of lyric sync and the current trend toward "videos can't tell stories" as of the last week.
Why would I go on the offensive against you? This isn't the plagiarism thread (the only issue where our ideals really clash). ;p

Bull, you keep dissing people like you're better just cause you got a little lucky with a few videos. Like you're so much better than anyone who edits any diffrently from you.Arigatomyna wrote:Kettle, black. o.OVoices_Of_Ryan wrote:Lately you and a few other people around here have started to think anything you say is boss, I got news for you. PM me with some links to the times when I 'dissed' people like I'm better than them. And please explain this 'got a little lucky with a few videos' statement. As far as I know, I haven't even *announced* my videos for over a month. o.OVoices_Of_Ryan wrote:Bull, you keep dissing people like you're better just cause you got a little lucky with a few videos.
