Experiments in Drama - AWAPro video

Post by Voices_Of_Ryan » Sun Oct 03, 2004 4:14 pm

Experiments in Drama
Awa Professional Contest Video
Anime: Rahxephon
Band: Queen & David Bowie
Song: Under Pressure

"I suppose now thinking back, I shouldnt have chosen to enter this specfic video (because you might have to understand the fact that it WAS done AS an experimental Idea) into Anime weekend Atlanta Professional. But for me, at this specific time this was a pretty major break threw with my editing, and I had only about 1 week before the deadline for the contest. So I did, What I did (enter the video)."

I liked it, though it kept skipping on me, I tried everything to get it to stop, and every player I've got, no go. Oh well, it wasn't bad too. Also, now whenever I hear this song I expect Vanilla Ice to start singing, but you can thank Stark Effect and Scintilla for that.

I've played it on WMP 6.4, 7.0 and Classic and get no problems. So?

Glad you liked it though :).

The corruption is spreading!

Anyway, let me see what I remember about this video when I saw it on the contest DVDs (since you said this is the same version):

The effects you added at the beginning on the bass notes seemed kinda random and useless, esp. considering they didn't come back in other similar spots in the song later on.

There were a few spots in which you had two scenes overlaid, semi-transparent style, and then one would suddenly cut out and the video would keep going from the one that stayed. I don't know if you did that on purpose (I know when I pointed the same thing out in a beta of another video, you said it was a mistake), but it's always bugged me.

I think you could have made more use of the quieter parts of the music... like, used more fades to black perhaps? And perhaps I'm just biased from having worked with this song before, but when I hear Bowie going "Love love love love love" right on the beats like that, I expect something to happen on those beats, be it cuts, copy-zoom-and-fade-out effects, or whatever. (Just one example of a spot in the music that I think could have been better exploited.)

As usual, I didn't get the story, because I haven't seen RahXephon (though I hope to this year). I could tell there was a lot of Ayato feeling bad and big destructive stuff happening, but past that I didn't really get it.

I apologize if I've remembered something inaccurately; it's been over a month since I last saw this.

I remember watching this come together over the course of a day. It was interesting, to say the least.

Haha, yeah I was so buzzed on Pepsi that day ><;; I still can't remember why I did half the things I did :P.

Out soon: My new book "how to make a self-distructive drama video in 6 hours or less!" should be out next week :P

I watched this at AWA and stood and applauded. I loved it.

Scintilla nailed on every point I would have offered, so I can't really say anything else.

Overall, it was a great video. Thanks for sharing. =0)

that was the thing that bugged me the most about this vid too. All in all not too bad, but not quite what I would consider profesional level. I think more work should have been put into finalizing it, rather than rushing it in the course of a day.

It kinda woulda canceled out the "experiment" idea of the video... dont you think?
