i need help with convertion to huvfyuv

Post by shishlik » Sat May 08, 2004 4:30 am

i dl dbz matirial from mirc and it's really high quality but it's coded to divx/xvid....
so i start mpeg.inc and start converting to huvfyuv and the file comes out way to big....
i mean it becomes to big for my harddrive for the program to finish(i have a harddrive of 80 giga)
for some reason the video file turns bigger than it should....
can anyone tell me why?
the same happend when i used virtua dub
the program just told me it woun't finish the convertion because it can't make files that are bigger than 4 giga.....you could guess to what sizes the dl would have reached if i hadn't stoped it....

1) This belong to the video software help forum
2) you shouldn't download sources from irc, instead, you should buy DVDs...

HuffYUV produces really large files (at 720x480 it can be something like 500MB/minute), so this is normal.
Now the 4GB file limitation is strange..
is that because you don't have enough space on your hard drive ? then you should free some space.

Otherwise I know there is a 2GB limitation for files in older versions of windows, but not 4GB... :?
Anyway if the problem comes from that then you should just export your video in several "small" HuffYUV chunks

It's 4 with my XP version to.

If you have so little hard-drive space then better go buy an additional HD:

1) They're really, really cheap. Both huge ones and medium size ones.
2) It's much easier to get ahold with clips or .vobs, so you needn't worry for space.
3) If you make multiple Huffyuv exports and edit them over and over for better results, than you'll really need enough free space.

It's too my belief due to personal experience (don't have a clue if I'm right or not) but HDD under that FAT32 file system have a 4GB limit on file sizes. My HDD under the NTFS file system doesn't seem to have a file size limit.

with virtual dub you can convert fractions of each video. use the slider and the Mark in and Mark out buttons to set where you want to start and finish converting, so you end up with more converted files but each file will be under 4 gb.

You don't even need to do that - just set up segmented exporting to automatically split at 4gig or whatever.

On a somewhat related note, and I'm assuming things, but...

Stop supporting Anime-HQ and their DVD rips of licensed anime... namely DBZ. w0rd.

I think your right, file size limits on the later fat32 file systems I beelive are 4GB, but NTFS i know for a fact is unlimited. THis is why you should have an entire secondary HD set asside for Video editing (or at least most of it), and it should be formated in NTFS if you run windows NT, 2000 or XP. Not to mention NTFS is just a much better format than Fat32, but limited in support in other operating systems.

I live in a country when they don't have any anime DVD's. However, I found a way. One dude orders DVD's over Internet since he has a credit card and I just gave him the money and got the DVD's when they arrived.

*is waiting for X(tv)* :P
