Jacon-amv codecs ftp ASAP!
Not sure if this is the best forum to go to since this is more on the technical-help side but I'm trying to submit two amvs to a jacon convention for the amv contest.
If anyone can help me ASAP, the deadline for this is tomorrow (30th). I've never submitted an amv to a convention contest and so I'm afraid to do something wrong.
The Jacon convention has this page for amvs--- http://jacon.org/amv.html. They say that the "videos may be in MPEG-1, MPEG-2, Huffy, DV or Uncompressed." They say they'll ultimately convert it to MPEG-2.
Does that mean I don't have to do all the regular compressing once I've exported it. I believe premiere exported my amvs at DV AVI--which I'm assuming is the same as just DV that they say they allow. So the file is like 1.2 GB, so is that okay to send?? Or do they expect a certain size? I e-mailed a few questions when requesting information for sending them through FTP, but I only received the FTP information and nothing in regards to my question.
I tried to log on to Jacon's FTP using Smart FTP (Which I believe I used for uploading to the org), but couldn't get it to successfully log on. It seemed to work though when I just put in their address in the address bar. So I went into the folder they said, and dragged my amv into the folder. It started for an hour or so (with probably less than ten percent done), and then I got some kind of error and it stopped.
I'm reluctant to try again without someone telling me if I'm doing this right or whether the amvs size is just too large for it. I'm going to be torn between working on my finals for school and trying to get this uploaded in time... advice anyone??

i e-mailed him about something... *Snackpants* and he hasnt e-mailed me back... i doubt im entering anything into jacon... but i will be showing my amvs on my friends laptop.. if anyone wants a free showing.. plus a few of my favorite vids... but yah.. not entering into jacon... and as for your question... i have no idea... if i were you i would convert it to an Mpeg 1 or 2, High quality.. big ratio, and then it should be around the 100-300 meg mark, then upload.. i personally wouldnt upload anything larger then 200 megs, but i havent done ftp for a con before..

I uploaded a video of mine using the one of the MPEG2 templates found on their contest rules page. That way they don't have to convert it and I know before hand it is encoded well. The file turned out to be 120 MB for 2 min and 17 sec of footage.
As for the ftp server while using Smartftp:
Use ftp.(servername).com not ftp://ftp.(servername).com like it is displayed in the email. Of course replace servername with whatever it should be(I forgot and don't have access to the e-mail at the moment.) He has it setup like that so people can upload their videos via Internet Explorer by just clicking the link and logging in..

All right, thanks! I'll stick to the DV then.
I tried my other amv and I think it worked---I didn't get any errors at least. But when I tried my other one for the second time, it STILL gave an error. Something about check to see if you have permission/connection lost. I don't know why it's giving me that.

Oh yeah, I did forget. But I tried that--adding the digit. I thought it was going to work this times, it got to around 30% I think, but then it gave me the same errors. Error occured while copying. Make sure that you have permission to put files on this server. Details: connection lost.
Just changing the digits every time won't help me if it keeps giving me this error >,<
