Underground Awards...

     It's a real shame the Video of the Week thang hasn't been implemented yet, ne?


     Hey, why don't we do it ourselves for awhile?  At least until the official thing get's goin'?  It'll give a well-deserved boost to a newborn AMV's popularity, give that extra-warm AMV afterglow to the creator, plus it's another good reccomendation tool for those AMV downloaders who need to make a download worth it; like 56k modem users, and those who have a per-month MB limit (like I'll be forced into any moment now...).

     Every Sunday or so, someone could post the eagerly anticipated weekly Underground Awards (dd/mm) thread, and people could post their nomination of AMV of the week (Not one of your own, of course!). Doesn't that sound like a nice idea? You see a good AMV, and think to yourself "Y'know, that was actually pretty good. I think I'll go give it the thumbs-up in the Underground..."


     Heck, I'm open minded. It doesn't even have to have been released that week. It could be an old one. You could be scrounging through the a-m-v.org archive's, download a whole slew AMV's from that series you just finished watching, see one you quite liked, and thought "Now that was a goodie. Best one I've seen this week. I'd even say it's my... AMV of the Week! I should mention it in the Underground..."

     Whad'ya think?

P.S. Of course, I'd also like to see some Top 10 Lists by show too. (Top 10 Tenchi Muyo, Top 10 X/1999, Top 10 Read Or Die, etc). No percentage system, just a simple clicky vote button. Wouldn't that be neat? Maybe we should take on that one too...?

P.P.S. This next thought would probably be better suited in the AMV Suggestions forum, but I'm feeling lazy, so one post is enough for me: Has anyone thought of doing a parody AMV of another AMV? Like say... putting wacky subtitles over EVA-Engel, or somethin' like that? Just a thought.

the thing is so many people will post nominations. and then how would you pick which one wins?

Use a poll? And if so, what's to stop people stuffing the virtual ballot box?

Do you go by weight of informed opinion (as opposed to blind all-10s)?

It's interesting, and I'd like to see it implemented. Perhaps one person holds domain over the thread, and nominates a forum member to give their pick of the week, via private email. Then the master (or mistress) of the Underground Awards posts the relevant info and commentary about the nominated member's choice for the week. That way the thread doesn't get spammed.

It would almost beg for some kind of superuser status to keep the thread locked and spam-free, which would allow discussion threads to pop up alongside it.
