The Wasteland (experimental instrumental vid?)

Post by Otohiko » Thu Feb 12, 2004 10:12 pm

Greets.

A new vid from me; and this time it's for real.
Don't pre-judge it based on either my previous work or the footage used - I've done my best to preserve seriousness, originality, and maybe even a hint of 'art'.

It's built around what's been my favorite piece of music for the last few months - Deception of the Thrush, which, in turn, is built around T.S. Elliott's poem 'The Wasteland'; and it's what I consider an original interpretation of both of those, as well as the anime, Eva.

You may moan at the sound of "another Eva vid :? ", but do give this a try; I believe I've made something quite unusual, and chose the less-used scenes for the video. For one, there isn't really even any Eva's in this vid.

Oh yea... It's long, but please don't let that turn you off. It doesn't repeat itself, and has 3 very different part musically, visually and mood-wise.

Give it a try if you're in the mood for something 'artistic'. If you want something more fun - then there's other vids for you.

See video description for relevant text from the source poem.

Well, see what people say; for both of you who are actually gonna see it, I'd appreciate any comment as this is a vid I've actually put a lot of effort into.

Including skipping food, sleep and homework over the period of 5 days and having my registry wipe out in the process

Cool video. beginning was freaky

But I wasnt feeling the middle and the effects at end.

Those little squares were.... :?

Actually the beginning of the middle pat was good but then you used some scenes that wernt fixing.

Good video though...awesome song.

Well, thanks for the criticism. Hey, it's a learning process. I tried out things which I thought would be fitting. The effects usage? Aw hell, I had to try something. Perhaps when I get better at editing, I'll learn how to sync single-note solos to something more intriguing.

Personally, I enjoyed making the later part a lot better than the rest, so at least it's not all lost.

:)

BTW, anyone interested in, say, trading ops on this - talk to me. I need feedback on what went right and what didn't.

Dude, I love the way you edit. That really worked for me, and completely carried my away to a little nostalgic world for seven and half minutes. I really, really like it- one of my favourite Eva vids ever, but I would have to say that it wouldn't probably have the same impact on everyone. I think I just empathise with your style a lot.

Clear, crisp and excellent audio and good capture quality, too. Good song. The poem was well worth the read :P

In all, one huge  from me.

Heh, thanks lots :)

I'm indeed sure it wouldn't have the same effect on everyone; it doesn't have any particular hooks besides half-decent editing, but I did try to put through a vision/concept. If one's open to seeing the concept through, I think it should work.

And oh, if anyone's interested; here's the site where I quoted the words from; it has the full text and a pretty extensive analysis of the poem:

It's basically a reflection of World War I; but it's a wasteland just the same.

This sounds awesome, getting it now. I tried getting last night, but the server wasn't working well. Oh well. I've always been a fan of this poem.
