How do you feel about Foreign Lang. songs?
Quite a number of German songs I've seen.
Even fewer using Japanese.
Saw one Chinese vid.
How do you all feel about AMVs using songs spoken in a different language? Turn-off or (unique) Turn-on?

If the music's good and it works for the video, then it's good and works to the video. I don't mind what language it is in.

I suppose it depends on whether or not the lyrics are important to the story or not.
Off the top of my head, I can think of Tainted Donuts, Kevin Caldwell's Engel, and Shining Collection that are all in other languages, and in none of them are the lyrics especially important.
In Engel, the harsh-sounding German lyrics are used to good effect (lip-synching Asuka to them really works well) even if the audience has no idea what they mean.
In the notes for Tainted Donuts, E-ko explains that the fact that the lyrics were in Japanese enabled him to just forget about them and make up his own story.

I did one that was half English and half Portuguese. It was used as a way to set off two characters in the AMV, each having their segments in a different language. So in that case it was built into the point of the AMV.
Anyhow, what Savia said.

The actual sense of the song has nothing to do with the video, but it's cool how caldwell referred to the end of the chours that asuka doesn't want to be an angel.
I like it when I see an amv done to a German song with well fitting lyrics, of course I can understand it way better than english, especially rap.
When I watch AMVs with english lyrics then sometimes I don't get the point because I don't understand correctly. Some missed lyric synch doesn't affect me as well as I might miss it when they were correctly synched.
Then it's cool again to watch AMVs done to a song I can't understand one word (melezov's To be Excel or eko's Tainted Donuts) because you don't go with the lyrics, only with the beat of the song and the pitch of the voice.
Even my "Overdrive" was done to a partial japanese song.
It's kinda like doing / watching an instrumental video if you don't have a translation

I think it's probably slightly harder to tell a story with a foreign language song, but that's not necessarily such a bad thing. I didn't have any idea what the words were to one of the songs I used, so I just treated the vocals as another instrument. Last night or the night before D-Dubyaoosh pointed out that the lyrics were completely off

I have no idea how to use this new forum.

If you've read the lyrics to Shiroi Yama No Naki, you'd know that the song is completely off from Tainted Donuts' concept.
"In the middle of the white, white darkness, the white, white darkness,
There is to much mistaken information, it invades my brain, as if I knew everything,
The information is controlled, it belongs to them.
It gives everyone an idea (it changes their minds)
They are tricked into accepting it until there is excess amounts.
No matter how hard I try, I can't see it. No matter how hard I try, I can't hear it.
It's what they all think.
Let me see, let me hear, tell me about, the truth.
But all I get is sadness and (because of that) an adrenaline rush.
And with that they throw away all of the leftover parts but it hasn't been decided when.
Because of all of that I understood my feelings, but in the end I didn't understand.
I didn't understand,
I didn't understand,
I didn't understand,
I didn't understand,
I didn't understand anything.
In the middle of the black, black water, the black black water,
Fill up the recorders and fill up the wires,
I get the feeling that I want everything, they control the price, it belongs to them.
It gives that feeling to everyone, feel it until you feel excess amounts,
they're trying to pawn absolutely everything off on you.
No matter how hard I try, I can't see it. No matter how hard I try, I can't hear it.
Everyone believes in everything.
Let me see, let me hear, tell me about, the truth.
