size/resoution of the vids

Post by valssj4 » Sat Sep 06, 2003 6:20 am

(i feel that it's he right section to post this topic but if it isn't feel free to move it)

frequently i see vids that have high resolution(e.g. 640x480),high bitrate and also high size....but why this?for many of these isn't necessary!
i've seen amv's with high resolution where there were clips which have the original resolution of 320x240 (i know this becouse i've shared that clips from me encoded with that resolution-.-)...or only videos with a bitrate like 2500 or higher .....why this?it isn't necessary!ok if the vid have an high resolution and it have dvd-ripped clips(but they must be high quality!)i can agree with the choose of an high bitrate, but when i see a vid 320x240 with 3000 k/sec .... i think that even if the clips are taken from a dvd source and resized to 320x240,isn't necessary to have that bitrate...if the source is great ok i advice to use 2000 k/sec as bitrate or something little higher...
the high resolution and high bitrate doesn't give only more mb's to the vid(i have a dsl line ,ok,but when i see a vid of 70 mb and 4-5 minutes of vid with 320x240 as resolution and a video quality not for a 10 in the ratings ...)but also other give me problems
e.g. i can't see a vid with high res completely becouse video and audio doesn't go together, and so i must resize and recompress the vid
and this can happen also with the vids with a too high bitrate and a normal res

what do you think about it?
have you ever have my same problems?
(it doesn't happen only with avi divx/xvid but also with mpg's....)
nothing is impossible, expecially for the person that haven't to do it!

I'm not quite following the question as you are speaking of 3 different problems!

for starters, the width of the image is not important to the size of the file.

if you fail to "clean" your video, than a 160 X 120 video can encode to the same size as a 768 X 576 video!

the biggest mistake most people make is trying to squeeze the Audio into a smaller format than is actuall nesessary for clean listening; my Audio's are 96k Stereo WAV's converted to 224k MP3's which takes less than 2 megs per minute.

Somewhere in the Boards Guides should be the proper way to Clean your Video
before uploading it - a bad encode can totally over-load your computer on playback!

It's probably just because people are stupid or something. These days, people measure their penis size by the resolution the use.

Yes, and since I use 1080p for all my video projects, mine must be the size of this planet.

Well, when you have a 4min video which at constant quantizer 2 encode is 30mb at 320x240 and 50mb at 640x480 I know which one I'd rather have.

However, I tend to only upload full res videos that have an average bitrate (at cq2) of about 1mbps. 2mbps videos at full res are too much for older systems so I reduce the resolution accordingly.

Of course there's always mpeg1 where the res wont make any vast difference to a machine's ability to play it back smoothly.

320x240 looks crap at any quality encoding level simply because at that resolution there isnt enough chroma samples for the detail - making all intense sharp colours look like crap.... it's a waste of a good compression alogrithm imo ^_^;

Size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it

i've 312 ram and a S3 video card with 8mb...maybe this is the problem(the video card with few mb's)for the high res vids....
but i've lissen somewhere that this type of card can e modified in order to have more mb's taking them from the ram...if someone know how to do can contact me by e-mails or msn or better give me a url where i ca find how to do this?
