11th Anniversary of Hurricane Andrew...like anyone cares

Post by BishounenStalker » Sun Aug 24, 2003 6:05 pm

Anybody else here from the South Florida area, or were at least in South Florida on August 24, 1992?

If you weren't, you were fortunate. For anyone who really cares, the National Hurricane Center recently re-assessed Andrew, and upgraded the storm from a Category 4 to a Category 5 (which I've been saying it was for the last 11 years). Andrew set a record for the costliest storm in Florida history.

I was 12 when it hit, but it isn't a day I'll soon forget. Put it this way: having your house nearly blown off its foundation and three members of your family nearly sucked out a broken window while you're cowered in an inner bathroom with a younger brother listening to everyone screaming and the house falling apart around you is something few people ever forget.

Correction: That should've been "National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association."

The upgrade also makes Andrew the third hurricane in history to strike the Continental US as a Category 5.

These storms are commiting terrorist actions on our Godly nation. As a scared American citizen, I DEMAND our government do something about this. Preferably pre-emptive bombing of all storms with the potential to become category fives, and surgical strikes in the Bahamas, Jamaica, and anyone else in the Caribbean that might be in league with these vile storms of evil.

I also demand our government put regulations on all air conditioners, rotary fans, and ESPECIALLY those menacing hand fans. What do YOU, Mr. and Mrs. America, need a small fan that you can carry in your pocket for? Nothing good, I bet! Imagine if a child took one of those into school! Imagine if a bunch did! We could have horrible mini-Andrews IN THE GODLESS (thank you, liberal Supreme Court) CLASSROOMS! And since we don't have prayer in schools, God won't protect our children in them!

I don't want my child to be scared of kids with fans, and I don't think, if you're a sane, God fearing patriot, you want YOUR child scaring other children with fans!

And imagine what a bunch of no good ragheads from the Middle East could do with a bunch of rotary fans! They could put a bunch on a truck and drive around, on a hot day, when everyone is out in public, AND BLOW COOL AIR ON EVERYONE! And make mini-Andrews!

So Mr. and Mrs. America, hand in your fans, your horrible, scary industrial grade air conditioning equipment, and those atrocious hand fans! America's safety and security demand it!

FOR THE HOMELAND AND PRAISE GOD!
I'm out...

That was indeed a great response. Also I now live in florida, but I didnt when andrew hit. I don't really care about its anniversary, but still I know about it. Anyway hurricanes are the number one reason I am afraid to live in florida.

At that time, I lived in Biloxi, MS. We were planning on heading north to get away from the storm. Thats when the storm changed it course and missed us completely. I was too young to actually understand what was actually going on, but I knew that it was a really big storm.

Hey, it was cool. I had two Japanese businessmen stay with my family during Andrew. My dad was basically their US contact in a business deal, so we housed them, since the hotel they were at was on the Atlantic beach.

I think I remember going through Andrew...either that or I am confusing it with another hurricane. I think I slept through both... :?
