The God-like dubs... We salute you!

Post by OmniStrata » Tue Jun 24, 2003 2:10 pm

This is a thread to praise and show off those fantastic dubs that allow all of America to watch anime...

[you sub only losers (who have dub luver "hate" tendencies) should learn that it's GUARUNTEED that anime would die had it not been for the work of good dubs...] I don't mind subs at all [all my fav digisubs I buy domestic DVD which is dual language so I can appease all friends but still, DUB is the way for me...]

Do NOT post about why dubs suck. That means:
a) you're a flamer [homo and what not]
b) you obviously can't follow instructions
c) you watch bad dubs because you CHOSE to and therefore are an idiot...
d) you shouldn't disagree with someone and insult them. I hate the Love Hina dub but one of you might like it...

The GOD-LIKE DUBS: (please post the voice actor companies if you know them as well)

Cowboy Bebop (lots of the Voice Actors I heard from Pioneer)
Virtua Fighter TV (when it's funny in English and dull in Sub, you KNOW they're doing something right... Media Blasters I wuv you! I forgot to mention, they dubbed the intros and endings too, and good I might add)
Sorcerer Hunters (Carrot screaming in torment is quite good, ADV r0x0rs)
Nadesico (Hard to find more fitting voice actors I think. And yes Akito is a Shinji who's MAN enough... ADV r0x0rs)
Tatoon Master (a most unheard of sexcellent anime, again ADV r0x0rs.)
Elf Princess Rane (Media Blasters, PWNS JOO!)
Tenchi Muyo in Love (The first EVAR anime to be created with DUB in mind... thanks Pioneer, they even dubbed the OPENING/END SONGS!)
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (I think the va's are Pioneer)
Generator Gawl (ADV Pwns as well)

great dubs:

Onegai Teacher (I hear Mizuho and say WTF! HECK YEAH! SAME VOICE ACTOR AS BELLDANDY - OMG Movie!)
Chobits (Crispin Freeman is da man. And ah, a Pioneer dub ^_^)
Hand Maid May (Again, Pioneer dubs quite well...)

Anything I missed?
"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

Record of Lodoss War OVA wasn't bad. (don't remember who did that one, U.S. Manga Corp, I think)

Macross Plus wasn't too shabby. (Manga?)

You're Under Arrest OVA's (Animeigo, I love that company)

Gunsmith Cats (ADV, I think)

I can't list any "God-like" dubs, though I admit that Cowboy Bebop is the king of all dubs I've ever seen.

Off-topic, I noticed a few familiar voices pop up in Xenosaga (I heard Gould from MacPlus and Milly from Trigun, and KOS-MOS sounded familiar, too). Alot of video games these days are doing great voice work. (I won't say they're doing better than localized anime because you asked us not to badmouth dubs  )

I guess Chobits dub is ok. One of the best dubs I've ever heard... it doesn't make me cringe...

I've never heard the Chobits dub. Hey, I've got an idea. Anybody with the desire and capability, make some MP3's of GOOD dubbed anime conversations. That might shut up some of us sub-only people. Probably not, but maybe.

Pioneer and ADV does the most good dubs Iv heard. TokyoPop and TRSI also do some good stuff. The only company I fear for dubs is bandai. PH34r!

Is this one technically considered a dub? Last I heard, in one of those rare occasions, this was first recorded in English with a Japanese language track created afterwards.

My source could have been wrong on this

Now then, so I didn't waste time if that was wrong...gonna play the debatable card and submit the 2001 dub of Akira to the list

Tenchi Muyo In Love was the first.

Some people are unwilling to believe it but the fact of the matter is, the anime was created [lip movements, I shit you not] with an American audience in mind. Thus it was dubbed first. I gotta say, Tenchi's Mom is a MILF through and through... [her voice was exquisite]

Though Tsunami's casting was well called for too. [that reverb that they added to Wendy Lee (I think that's her, though I'm not certain) makes that Goddess soul perfect]

Kiyone's dub always r0x0rs...

Damn, I forgot AnimEigo [sniffle] my first anime [borrowed] was Oh My Goddess and after watching both versions [I got the Domestic DVDS ^_^] I can say either will suit anyone...

little side note...

the Oh My Goddess Movie was NOT by AnimEigo and the voices are NOWHERE near their originals. For one, Keiichi sounds more "manly". (I wonder if you girls are into that kind of voice ^_^) And Belledandy is very gentle yet high-pitched. Best "new" dub was Urd. Same voice actress as Jura (Vandread) and Arshes Nei (Bastard!! OAV) VERY sultry and sexy. The OAV Urd sounds more mischievously cute... I liked the Movie Urd better though. When she summoned the Lightning spell, I said [WHOA ARSHES NEI REINCARNATED...]
