I juast d'loaded Abbadon Studios "In The End of Evangelion" and I noticed something rather disturbing and possibly bad (for me anyway).
The end of the video and a few smaller parts of it are almost identical to my "Evangelion - Bring Me To Life" video i did recently. Now, I know that Abbadons came out well before mine did (i have their Reminiscence video). Now, there are a few differences in theirs and mine, the end of my vid has the beach scene from EoE, but the cuts are shorter in one or two sections, and it has another clip overlaid in transparencey. The defining factor is that I sped up my clips to fit the music, and it appears that I inadvertantly copied Abbadons work. Theres also one involving Asuka getting massacred, and its been sped up, now my footage differs a bit, but is also sped up.
So what do I do? I dont want to change the layout of my video, but it looks really similar to another one that I didnt have at the time I made mine. What I've done really fits the music really really well, but it looks like I've ripped someone elses work off.
Just wanted to let you guys know, so that when I finally get my vids up you dont accuse me of AMV "piracy" or anything. I will change the video, but only if I absolutely HAVE to, and I won't be happy about it if it comes to that, because that vid took a while to make, and I think its my best.
A concerning problem...

Why not put an abbrieviated version of this post on your video profile? Most people who care enough to hunt you down if you stole video clips right out of someone else's video will more than likely read your video profile.
Just don't put this down: "I did this video in like, 2 seconds...it's my best ever." and they most likely will believe what you are saying.

Good idea.....this video actually took me about 30-40 hrs total, and alot of hard work and ripping and reripping EoE and Death And Rebirth, which is why I'll be pissed If I get accused of ripping Abbadon Studios off. Like I said, I didn't have "In The End of Evangelion" when I was making my vid. I only got it today.

Animes usually have certain scenes that hold more importance than others, so those scenes are more likely to be used by multiple amv makers - and if the music fits, the videos for the same anime can look quite similar. I'd hope people would pass it off as coincidence, otherwise any time an amv uses a certain scene from an anime, that scene would be forbidden to other makers wanting to do similar songs (or songs with similar beats that match the particular scene). Otherwise you get the question, 'this amv used this scene with a fast beat and so did I - since theirs came first does that mean mine is a plaigerism?' As many amvs as there are for some animes, similar tastes are to be expected (just think of the huge dbz amv collection linked here, so many with similar beats - if not the same songs - and the same scenes...it's bound to happen).
I think the real question is, if you hadn't seen the other amv, would you still have chosen the beach scene?
