My playlist is feeling played out

Post by Chaos Angel » Tue Apr 29, 2003 5:46 pm

So I need to pump some fresh blood into it.

Recommend me some groups and/or songs to try out. I don't care about genre or age, I just want something I've never heard of before. Something underground, something old but still good, something so new no one knows it exists yet, whatever. Recommend me good music.

I await the results.

Two-Mix (Japanese dance pop - good shit). "Last Impression", "Can't Stop Love", and "Stance Of Resistance" are good songs.

Sentenced (Scandinavian black metal/heavy metal group. They sound like good modern Metallica a lot of the time). Recommended songs: "Grave Sweet Grave", "With Bitterness And Joy", and "Farewell".

OOMPH!, if you have yet to hear them, is good. German industrial rock that ranges from heavy ("Bastard") to emotional ("Kennst Du Mich?", "Swallow") to dancey rock ("Viel Zu Tief").

Hocico. I've mentioned them before, I'll mention them again. Mexican gothic industrial. "Hell On Earth", "Boiling Blood", and " Cuando La Maldad Despierta" are pretty good songs.

Wolfgang Petry does nifty German pop rock. The image is wacked, but the music is solid, in my opinion.

Hmm, all foreign.

Anyhow, those are my recommendations.
I'm out...

You cannot go wrong with Heino.

In other news, Fluke's "Atomic Bomb" is good. Get the Chemical Brothers remix if you can.

And I would be remiss if I did not pimp Blue Man Group. Their all-instrumental Audio is a fantastic exhibition of percussion. They've got a new one now that had singing in it. I think it's called Complex.

Blue Man Group is kick-ass. I'd love to see them again sometime.

God, that show was so fucking incredible...

Alright, I'll list some more that I don't think I've told you about...

Andromeda - Great progressive metal, a little heavier on the keyboards than most. Suggestions: Encyclopedia, Chameleon Carnival, In the Deepest of Waters.

Power of Omens - Really good prog metal. Just get Test of Wills, if you like that, you'll probably like a lot of their stuff.

Ayreon - A band I, personally, think you'll really like. Varies a lot, often changes singer. I'd call it techno prog metal. Suggestions: Dawn of a Million Souls, Lost Message, The Dream Sequencer.

Dream Theater - One of my favorite prog metal bands. Up there with Symphony X. I might have told you about them before. Greatest bass player ever (in prog metal, at least  ), and one of the greatest drummers. The lead singer goes a little higher than I'd like and a few songs are almost mainstream, but still very nice. Suggestions: The Glass Prison, Change of Seasons, Dance of Eternity.

And I second Sentenced.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

If you haven't heard anything by Low, Slint, Godspeed You Black Emperor or Ida, then I think you could be missing out on something. Your milage may vary.

A good resource on some of the best the "underground" has to offer right now is brainwashed.com/brain. Sometimes they're right on the money, sometimes they miss by a mile, but they usually have some song samples with their reviews.
