Saint Seiya and Vinland Saga AMVs

Post by ultimeaguy » Fri Nov 13, 2020 1:20 am

This was a fan request for a close friend of mine. I have never watched Saint Seiya so it was really cool to use a throwback classic.

This song cut deep when I first heard it and I put in way more effort than normal. I hope yall enjoy it.

The epic/dark tone of the song fits pretty well with this anime. I appreciate your effect-free editing and once again there's a continued growth in how clean and well-timed it feels. You reach for a flashy strobe effect again here and I think it's used pretty well (frequently enough to be a recurring device that gives the AMV a sense of structure but not quite overused either). I think fans of this anime will have a lot more to chew on here than people who've not seen this series, but this isn't just a random collection of action scenes. I got a pretty good sense of who the characters were (on an extremely general level) and what the stakes were. It's really hard to establish this kind of thing without interrupting action flow. I wouldn't say this had me on the edge of my seat or anything but I was engaged for the whole duration and that doesn't happen too often when it comes to this type of AMV.

Orphan frame at 1:11 was the only "flaw" in this that I found.

I’m having a great day today and your commentary is always a welcome catalyst for my mood. Thanks seasons I want you to know that I’m trying to incorporate your advice and observations when I’m working on these projects. You nailed the strobe effect, nothing gets past you. I intentionally omitted it sometimes so it would feel unexpected, intentional and still engaging. I 100% agree with your points. Really trying to mature my style without relying too much on effects. If you ever see me go overboard, I’m just experimenting so I’ll know exactly how to use the gimmick in the future. Hope you are well and stay tuned ;) I’ll try to not have any orphan clips in the next one
