I... can't... even... believe...

I missed the live announcement last night by about 2 or 3 minutes. I went to bed with some anxiety, knowing the announcements would be posted today. Since I'm a huge drama AMV fan, If I got into the Drama category one of my biggest AMV dreams would come true. There were so many, to say the least extraordinary editors who submitted this year and ones that submit every year to AX, so I was accepting that my videos getting in would probably be unlikely. Holding my breath, I came on this afternoon to check if the finalists were announced. I saw my name twice! I've read it about 6 times since, to make sure it hasn't changed or something. I clicked the video link and watched that too. At first, before I saw the video I was convinced I dozed off somehow and was dreaming. A few happy tears slipped out! (Yes, I know. :') Cheesy, right? ) This is seriously a huge dream come true. To think I almost gave up converting on the last day and didn't send this year. If I gave up, I wouldn't have achieved one of my biggest AMV dreams, one I thought might never come true. /cheese

Drama category at Anime Expo. Holy moly...

Kazemon15, I truly hope you don't give up. Keep trying! ChosenExiled, what happened to me tonight and today seems a lot like what happened to you! Congrats!

Kinda gutted the new AMV didn't make the cut, probably means it needs more polishing before release than I thought it did. Still I'm pretty happy with 2/3. Congrats to all the other finalists too.

I personally enjoyed your vid this year, Tearx, and I was saddened it didn't get in (but then, there's always preshow). But yes, we do have a very good drama category this year. In fact, for the most part I'm pleased with the entire roster for this year.

I have never, ever edited a video with the crowd in mind. I've always edited what I want to see. The crowd has to learn to appreciate and sit through that.

I never say "Will this be funny for the crowd?". I always say "HAR HAR MY OWN JOKE IS FUNNY TO ME AND EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT! I'M A FJCKING GENIUS! ".



For as long as I've been at this game, there's no magic formula to get into contests (other than the technical "Good Audio/Video" that doesn't look and sound like shit) and every contest is different strokes for different folks. I used to have a pretty good AX streak from 2002-2006 and it took me another 5 years of rejections to get back in. Was I disappointed? Hell yes, I was. But I still stuck to my principle of making what *I* want to see and that's why I got back in.

Now go out and make some videos.

You're totally right. My AMVs are FUCKING awesome and they deserve to be displayed on a 4k projector with audio levels reaching the threshold of pain! haha. I will always make what I want -- popular or not. It's upsetting this time around, but my spirit is not broken in the slightest! The way I see it, my AMVs were too amazing for this year's contest. There's no other explanation for it. I mean, who doesn't like boobs, cybernetic robots, violence and Progressive Rock? Of course, it would have been even more glorious if I could have used an anime source that has all that and Dinosaurs (hint hint Japan)! Sorry crowd, you're not ready.

I like the few editors who say something to the extent of 'I really didn't want that one to get in'. Can they trade? Haha.

That said, I'm disappointed that my vid didn't make the cut but the finalist caught me on a REALLY FREAKING GOOD DAY so I'm pretty ok with that. I already have plans for next year and Im hoping for preshow
