MomoCon 2015 AMV Contest: Winners + Contest Stream Upload

Hello Everyone! It took our staff 22 hours (spread over 2 days) of watching videos and arguing over them, but the judging is now finally over, and the finalists have been selected! So I would like to thank you all for your interest and participation in MomoCon's 2015 AMV Contest. Between our AMV Contest and V-Mix Competition, We received 211 accepted entries from 118 different editors from all across the world. This was by far the most debated contest viewing that we have ever had, and so it was painfully hard to narrow our list down to just 30. But without further adieu, MomoCon proudly presents the AMVs that were selected to be finalists.

All Finalists will receive a free 4 day pass to MomoCon 2015. If your video made finals, your name will be added to the comped badge list, and you will be able to pick it up from the "Will Call" desk (located next to the registration desk) during the convention. Entrants that attend MomoCon this year will also have the opportunity to vote on the winner of the "Editors' Choice" Award that will be given out at the end of the AMV Contest. Also, all the non-finalist videos that were accepted into the contest were moved to the V-Mix Competition and became eligible to win awards that have already been determined by our judges.

And lastly, for those of you unable to attend MomoCon, we encourage you to watch the LIVE stream of the contest on our official twitch channel. The contest will take place on Saturday, May 30th at 2:00pm EST, and streamed here: http://www.twitch.tv/momocontv3 . *I would also like to note how difficult it was for us to decide on the Finalists on Fun/ Upbeat. It took us about 2 hours to watch the videos in that category, and then it took us an additional hour and a half of arguing back and forth to decide the finalists for JUST that category. That was by far the strongest category in the contest, and caused the most intense debate that my staff has ever had. So for those of you that made the Fun/ Upbeat finals, or had your video moved from Fun/ Upbeat to a different category, just know that your video survived a absolute bloodbath LOL

*Also, I was very pleased with the number of entries that we received that matched our 2015 theme of Superheroes. Although we didn't even request people to send superhero videos, between the AMV contest and the V-Mix Competition, we received so many of them that we decided to make a "MomoCon 2015 Theme" Award. I would like to continue giving out this award in the future, and so I will make sure to tell you all the detail of our 2016 theme once it gets confirmed and officially announced

So, what's the deal with the V-Mix competition? Are you just showing the winners of awards at the con? Are those going to be announced the day of?

Me and my staff have already decided on winners for specific awards that will be announced during the V-Mix Awards ceremony that will take place a few hours after the AMV contest. During that time slot, we will play all the winners in the AMV room (that seats a total of 381 people btw ), and give out the awards to the winners that are present.

Yep We don't do a ranking system or a tally of votes. After we watch the videos in each category, we have a discussion about what were the best videos, and we all make a collective decision about what makes finals. This causes our judging party to be really long. And for the very first time, we were unable to judge all the videos in a single day. We spent 11 hours judging them on Saturday and another 11 hours on Sunday. The combined running length for all the videos that we watched is about 12 hours (not including the ones we replayed a few times), and so that means we spent about 10 hours just talking and mostly arguing among ourselves about which videos should make finals. Me and the convention director were damn near ready to fight over some of the vids

Yea, that tends to be the problem. Open debate juries can lead to all sorts of fun things when you have aggressive and passive folks together in a group, like coercion bias, echo chambers, deal making, etc. Ultimately, some people have more of a say than others.

Nah. It wasn't a problem. I was being a little facetious. I actually enjoy this type of judging and prefer it over anything else. Everyone in our group was allowed to express their opinion and fight for the vids that they felt strongly about. All of us are actually friends . We have known and worked with each other for years, and are more than comfortable with voicing disagreements. And if someone failed to voice their opinion about a video, we directly asked them.
