Part of the main appeal of many (not all) AMVs is their visual appeal. Anime can be very viscerally pleasing when the editing and the visuals combine in just the right way. If your video looks like crap, you can miss out on this aspect.

Another thing, is it's just a matter of personal pride for me. When I watch one of my videos 5 years from now, I don't want to be thinking "man, that really looks like CRAP! I wish I had cleaned it up a little better!"

This whole upscaling resolution for the sake of doing so trend that's been going on lately is pretty retarded.

Personally I ignore amvs' with bad quality cuz its a turn off to me, unless its something that catches my attention.

I guess I've never understood when people post a video and go "hey, this is my best video hands down, hope you love it because it owns, etc" and then post some crappy encode. I mean, why bother to spend all that time (or maybe they didn't) working on your masterpiece only to have it look like utter crap :/

x2, however I think poor quality can also really distract from a video, particularly if it's of a more recent series that I know can look better.

I dont really give a feck about visual quality in amvs. As long as i can see whats going on in the video, i dont really consider it an issue :\
