Personally, I make an effort to avoid travel by road over statelines. I always stress, so a result I make it a point to know everything. Yare-yare, in 3 months I'll have to make a road trip up the eastern seaboard and back. Not looking foward to it.

Addendum:
Here's a quick thought I had. Fuel costs... obviously an estimate.
Based on the vehicles you stated earlier, I was able to deduce:
Couldn't figure out the SUV...
Dodge Caravan (the minivan), if it wasn't the minivan you had in mind, it is still ~ equivalent of all the minivans out there averaged together in terms of mpg. So I will use it as a projection for costs.
Highway mpg estimate: $101.30
(figure without tax) (miles without pick-ups)
Combined Hwy/City estimate: $121.48
(figure without tax) (miles without pick-ups)
The actual amount will be inbetween these figures (interchanges, etc.)
These costs are assuming a ~$2.15/gallon cost projected for May 2005. Extrapolated from D.O.E. figures from this years trends. And assuming the oil crisis doesn't get curtailed by then.
That is without taking in to account stop and locations of people to pick up.
Hope it helped.
