HELL FUCKING YEAH!! LEts get together and bribe gainax to redo it again from ep i sode 19. THat would rockand make sense at the same time. I hope that they at least think that they could have done it like that. I HATE THE DEATH OF ALLL THE CHARACTERS, YOU BASTARDS...YOU BLEW IT UP!! DAMN YOU U.N> DAMN YOU ALL YO HElllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Right on! The thing that always pissed me off, but is fixed in the previously mentioned fanfic, is the fact Shinji, Asuka, and Rei could easily overcome their personal issues if they just learned to socialize and work together. They're all in the same boat, and have exactly the same problem, but they just express it differently.
As for all the metaphysical crap, I don't get half of the imagery in EoE, but I get the basic concept, and can deduce other crap from that. I have a unique view of Eva, though, because while I research other fan sites to understand the religious contexts, I see it in the eye of a scientist. Everything I have mentioned above about the Angels, I see in an evolutionary light, and not involving God (mostly, because I'm atheist, and I really hate frosted flakes, which is my own slur for white Christians).
What Gainax really should've done, had Anno had a pair, and overome his depressive bout, would ditch the whole "everything's destined to screw us over, so let's all wail in self pity" bullshit, and done a more appropriate "Terminator" style, in which (to quote the film) "The future's not set; there's no fate but what we make of ourselves!".
Seele obviously got quite a few of the translations wrong with the Dead Sea Scrolls (everyone except Gendo and Fuyutsuki thought Lillith was Adam, the Angels are constantly arriving not according to the schedule of the Human Instrumentality Project, and Gendo's pulling all kinds of shit behind their backs, which would obviously be referred to in the Dead Sea Scrolls).
It is more than possible, with Seele's horrible translation and constant revisions to the Instrumentality schedule, that the Children could easily take control of their own lives, rebel against NERV, and use the Evas as they see fit. With Unit-01 devouring the S2 engine, Rei's in-depth knowledge of Terminal Dogma, Kaji's research, and Misato's gung-ho attitude (when she's sober), they could easily overthrow the whole U.N./Seele alliance, and do whatever they wanted with their lives.
I have to agree, I hate all the characters dying. Granted, I'd expect those cutthroat japs in the JSSDF to slaughter everyone in their path (just look at the Phillippines and Guadalcanal from WWII), but NERV has to have MP-5N's/MP-5SD3's, M-16A2 rifles, Beretta 92-FS 9x19mm pistols, or at least some FN-FAL assault rifles. Also, why in the hell did they make it so easy for NERV to be penetrated by humans, yet shield it enough for Angels to have a hard time getting through? How easy could it have been to install knock-out gas and flash-bang grenade launchers in the access tubes, elevators, etc?
Basically, Anno was pissed because a bunch of Eva fans didn't get episode 25/26 (I can't speak, because I saw EoE before I got to episode 23, and I still haven't watched 24-26 yet). So, because he's so much like Shinji, he just spit in everyone's faces, and screwed over everybody! However, I do wish Second Impact was done like EoE, minus all the metaphysical flashbacks and live-action crap. Just show me what happens according to the rest of us, and leave Shinji's "right of passage" in Episode 25/26.
Anyway, Yuppa, if you're interested, we could co-author some kind of fanfiction to show those bastards at Gainax what it means to be an American (with the whole gung-ho, devil-dog attitude), rather than what it's like to be Anno (with the whole everyone hates me, so I'll just curl up and die crap).
