This doesnt even deserve a response.

Fuck off.
Whys that? I mean, as i said, either you people dont have a good reason, meaning insanity over nothing, or you have something to explain. If not, then your being dumb over nothing.
Fine.

AVI looks better than ASF at equivelant bitrates. It compresses better. You get to use a separate audio codec. It DOESNT FUCK YOUR AUDIO AND VIDEO UP the way ASF does. With certain codecs you can compress and recompress and recompress AVI's with very little quality loss. Its more efficient than ASF. Its more tweakable than ASF. If set properly, the amount of macroblocking is reduced a great deal. If the audio setting is accurate there is minimal or nonexistant sound artifacts (the funny tinny tone you get when the audio has been down-sampled). Its more versatile.

Is that enough?

That would probably be the best idea I've heard coming from you. I'm getting tired of answering stupid fucking n00b questions. "How do you do an AVI"? Uh, fucking export the fucking file out of Premiere and choose "Microsoft AVI". Fucktard.

Sheesh, when I came to this place, I knew absolutely nothing about video compression. And not even my first posts were THAT ridiculous.

What I'm sick of are n00bs who claim they want to learn about editing/compressing video, but they don't take the advice and tips of people who actually know what they're doing. 10 bucks says this idiot will think the guides are bullshit because he has no idea what he's reading

I know, its fucking bullshit!!

Last year when I joined, I knew nothing about video or audio editing, but at lest I listened to people after I asked them for advice. Ok so I got involved in alot of petty squabbles that made me look like a moron, but I accepted the fact that alot of folk here knew way more about the subject than me.

I happen to think that Sharker2001 should get the "Forum Idiot" award.

Advanced Windows Media Export(on my Premiere, atleast) exports to a .wmv file. I've found that you can get good quality if you choose the second to last DSL option. I can't tell you exactly what it is right now, because I don't have acces to my computer or Premiere at this point in time. However, when you select that option, and have a good DVD rip, you can get .wmv's that look really good at low file sizes. Such as this.
I'd also suggest you get a good quality .wav file at some inexplicably high file size. If you do that, the conversion to .wma will be a bit better sounding, instead of if you use an .mp3, where you will lose some background sounds.

If you use downloaded footage, though, you often get random pixelized moments when you use .wmv...

Now, if your computer permits, you should export your video in a huffyuv format. The file size will come out to be very large, something around a GB. Then, put that file in VirtualDub, and compress to DivX or XviD. Make sure to also compress your audio. If you do this the rigth way, you can have good quality AMVs at less then 20 MB.

People, people, settle down!

Of course ASF sucks for music videos! It just doesn't have the sheer quality of DivX .avi's.

What it does seem to be not too bad for is long videos in which you want so-so (crappy) video but good audio. I've seen things like 45-minute concerts compressed into a 70mb ASF file, with very nice sound quality.

But uh... unless you're making 45-minute videos with crappy visual, what's the point in ASF again? That is, given there are better formats...
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
