Ipod...AMV Portable!

I have an Insignia mp4 player. It costs a fraction of what an iPod does. AND IT ONLY HAS MY OWN VIDEOS ON IT. (well, it was one of Emong's, but that's it.) Convenient, since I only use the video feature to show my videos to coworkers and non-a-m-v.org friends.

I have an iPod.

The current requiresments are the amv has to be good, but since I just started putting them on it, it only has 45

I was wondering, for those who have an iPod (or any other portable media player), if the video is already in the right format (like you encoded it yourself with the right containter, codec, resolution) and you want to put it on your iPod, does, for instance iTunes, still reencodes the video? I remember dragging some h.264 files to my Zune and it took a quite some time to reencode (while using my own programs it would probably be faster and I have more control over it).

So does anybody have experience with it?

I had a video iPod.

Then I lost it by living it in a public washroom ;__;

I've been far too distraught by that event, and have blocked the topic of iPods out of my mind.
