NerdStrudel wrote:"got" the video?.. It was a fucking NARUTO vid about the fucking Uchihas. There are enough of them out there...TO this exact song might I add, where there isn't a whole lot for me to have to "get"..I've pretty much gotten all the "pain" and "anguish" and "heartbreak" and "anger" and "desire for revenge" and "family rivalry" and all the other shit that comes along with naruto pretty much figured out. So trust me, I knew what you were trying to do :\
^^

What I meant was that someone who knew the storyline well would immediately associate a scene with a particular part of the story, know exactly what was happening... that was aimed at your critique of the scene selections... although you were a bit vague because you couldn't remember exactly which parts... understandable. At this point, I see scene selections and use of effects as totally separate things... the scenes are the core and the effects enhance or make it more interesting.

Sooo what I've gotten from your review so far is when you say it's slow (at least for Sasuke running around) or critique the clips.... every clip in there had a purpose, and even though the relevance of each clip was usually created through references to the specific part of the episode, I could see what I was trying to portray and was happy with it. Unless more specific things are mentioned, it's not helpful. If I did a breakdown of the song and explained the clips, you might be surprised at how much more meaning there is.

Or you might like a fast-paced action vid, but that wasn't what I was aiming for with this. *shrug*

But yeah, what you said about the boring zooms got me thinking.

I thought both of your AMVs were pretty good. The effects you used in ItachiSaysGoodbye seemed appropriate and didn't degrade the mood at all. The beat-sync and edit cuts were well placed for the music.

I have never heard the EMO song and I was laughing through ItachiMustBeEmo so that was fun.

Good Job!

Actually, scenes and effects really aren't that separate. Effects don't simply make the stand-alone scene more interesting (when used well properly, imo), but can enhance the story the video is trying to tell as well. Hence, the two are connected. (Both scene selection and effects enhance story.)

For example, see Whisper of the Beast:

But moving on:
Actually, I liked your video. I thought most of the effects were well placed. The exception being the wavy effect in the couple of places you used it. I understand that it was for beat synch, but it just felt like it disrupted the flow of the video to me. There were also several transitions that I didn't much care for, though I didn't take note of their timecode. I also thought the ending felt a bit awkward and out of place. It seemed weird to just suddenly bring in Naruto and Jiraiya who hadn't been in the video at all up to that point.

Overall though, I thought it was pretty well done, especially for an oh-so-cliche, angsty naruto vid.

3.85/5 rounded to a 4/5 for the actual star rating.

(Maybe I'll get around to watching the second video tomorrow. I just don't feel up for the emo song tonight. Sorry. >_>)
... yea ...

Glad you enjoyed it! ^^ Thanks. ^^

...and for the record, I don't mind if people don't like it... just I'd like more specifics so I can clearly see what they're getting at and where they're coming from, so I can learn.

First of all, thanks so much for giving me a concrete example. ^^ Loved the effects in that vid... although I was a bit bewildered because it's in German???? (I usually like to see how the lyrics fit phrase by phrase) But I really liked the authors' interpretation of it. And they made a 'making of' video too! :D

I totally agree with you... it's just I'm not at the level where I can create my own footage using effects (or draw on existing footage using effects)... even though I want to get familiar with masks now. I am so unfamiliar with high quality effects that I don't really know the possibilities, but it's an exciting prospect. And it really helps to see vids which rely on the meaning behind the clips but also where effects play a highly significant part too, so thanks again for that vid.

I had actually been to amv-review for a beta of another video, and they had said more beat-sync - this is the first time I'd ever tried it. I agree about the wavy lines being out of place, but I wasn't sure if others liked it. Actually, the idea for a random wavy thing came from this vid... and now I'm looking at this vid again, I can't see it. Greeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaattttttt...... It must be at what's 0.35 but it looks nothing like it! Oh dear. And this was one of the AMVs recommended by Quadir in the newsletter.

I'll definitely research more into Premiere's effects so I have more transitions/effects to play with. ^^

And yes, I was thinking that as well about the end... but I guess I'd seen Naruto and Jiraiya so much when editing, it didn't seem out of place to put it because I thought people would know it as well. I really included it because it had action in it, that's all. An experiment, though. But yes, I can see how it can detract from the AMV because I didn't have any deeper meaning behind it, and they appeared suddenly.

Thanks for your feedback! ^^
