Really? I'd always heard that Lagarith was slower to decompress than HuffYUV (and it certainly seemed rather slower the one time I worked with it).
lost in translation. you're probably right, my mind jumbles many things.

You are probably right, I get this error
VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file ( audio stream 1).
The current preferance is to rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values durring processing for better compatibility. This may introduce 0ms of skew from the video stream. if this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate 64+/- 0.0kbs)

Do you still want to rewrite the header?
I click "Yes"

Then I get:
couldn't locate decompressor for format 'xvid' (unknown).
Virtualdub requires a video for windows compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used for Windows Media Player, are not suitable. only "direct stream copy" is available for this video.
So where would I get this codec?

@Kariudo: .. did I miss something in this translation, "decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate 64+/- 0.0kbs)" .. ??
.. this is .. 64000 sample rate -or- 64000 bit rate ?

Mumble grumble...

It seems to not be registering it. I downloaded the extention and then ran it, downloaded it properly, and I receive the same error?

Would this make the solution differant than simply downloading the codec that is not working?

The second error message will be eliminated by installing XviD, yes.

The first one means that your AVI file has a VBR audio stream. However, if you're only using these files as source for editing, then you generally don't care about the audio at all, so you can ignore it.
