lost in translation. you're probably right, my mind jumbles many things.Scintilla wrote:Really? I'd always heard that Lagarith was slower to decompress than HuffYUV (and it certainly seemed rather slower the one time I worked with it).The Origonal Head Hunter wrote:1) HuffyYUV is better, but I've heard it takes more processing power than Lagarith or Uncompressed.
footage-> AVI -> something I can edit with?

You are probably right, I get this errorScintilla wrote:What error message do you get? You're probably lacking a VfW codec that can decode the AVI.
I click "Yes"VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file ( audio stream 1).
The current preferance is to rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values durring processing for better compatibility. This may introduce 0ms of skew from the video stream. if this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate 64+/- 0.0kbs)
Do you still want to rewrite the header?
Then I get:
So where would I get this codec?couldn't locate decompressor for format 'xvid' (unknown).
Virtualdub requires a video for windows compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used for Windows Media Player, are not suitable. only "direct stream copy" is available for this video.

Would this make the solution differant than simply downloading the codec that is not working?post-it wrote:@Kariudo: .. did I miss something in this translation, "decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. .. this is .. 64000 sample rate -or- 64000 bit rate ?
