If you really "believed" in the GNU principles, you wouldn't issue any sort of takedown notice for unauthorized derivative work, because under that mindset there is no such thing as an unauthorized derivative work.
Agree or disagree with them, believe or disbelieve them -- whatever you want, that's fine. Just don't implicitly misrepresent those principles. That's a wrong which roughly on the same level as plagiarism.
