It actually does cut down quite effectively on sockpuppeting by increasing the amount of work required for the same effect.BasharOfTheAges wrote:Think of it like airport security: a bunch of bullshit that inconveniences a lot of people so that there's a perceived reduction in a perceived threat. How much of a problem is sockpuppeting really? I never seem to hear about it.Kalium wrote:It actually does cut down quite effectively on sockpuppeting by increasing the amount of work required for the same effect.BasharOfTheAges wrote:Think of it like airport security: a bunch of bullshit that inconveniences a lot of people so that there's a perceived reduction in a perceived threat. Seems to me the more and more registered users we have the more and more it seems we need some kind of level based priviledge system. Now, I'm egaltarian, and I don't feel people should be barred from certain priviledges just because they're new or less than prolific, but we should have some kind of verification or confirmation requirement so that have nearly as many issues as we do now... Granted, I'm a journalist, not a techie, and have no clue how such implementation would occur and am perhaps offering a solution that simply unrealistic.
Not that opinion scores really mean anything. I only pay attention to the comments and criticism. The scores are unimportant if they aren't backed up by anything.

How difficult would it be to disable the scores for people who didn't download the local video? I mean anyone could submit an opinion on any amv, but if they want their scores to count they have to download the local video.
Or let people leave QCs (not stars) to any amv on the org, local or not. Then you could link to the QC option on that "you have to download the local video to leave an op" error page. It would be nice to get quick comments on videos that can't be hosted on local.
