Blu-Ray Burner?!

I'm sure everyone is aware of format wars between Blu-ray and HD-dvd. I also understand that Blu-rays-Rs ( BD-R for new term of Blu ray disk blank) can also hold up to 25 gb. You can fill a whole series of insert fav anime here thats up to 25 episodes alone.

I was wondering though if Dvd decryptor would be the tool you need or would I need to totally change.

I would usually get vob files out of my rentals from Netflix and just save the video footage and extract all the audio and subs crap to make a decent file. Now With BD-Rs in motion I can fill a whole series arc in 1 disk.

Should I go get me a Blu-Ray Burner, or wait for this format war to blow over.

there's been some talk over at doom9 about ripping blu-ray & hd-dvd
(see the news for april fool's day, it seems to be accurate despite the day)

it would be nice to fit an entire series on 1 disk...but keep in mind that bd-r media costs an arm and a leg (with 1 single-layer disk costing $13.99 USD), and that's assuming that you have a bd burner which will set you back about $530 (USD) right now at the very least.

I'm not making a move on HD media until the war is over. I don't have $530 to throw around at my discretion, less so for a piece of technology that could flop.
There is word of a company (LG electronics) that is making a player that plays both formats that could put the two into stalemate...but I wouldn't rely on it to ensure the survival of either

cool? definately
cost effective? definately not
just wait for the war to be over (the prices will drop after a winner is determined or an agreement is reached)

I've read this in a PC magazine this morning about the player that'll be able to play both. But I checked on the cost of it all and took at the burning disk speed.

I learned not to buy the latest things when I got my first dvd player around the holiday. it was a 600 dollars as if I can remember and 5 or 6 years passed and now it looks like a wore out beta-max. I'll be waiting for this myself to pass on over it self.

But I would prefer the one dvd that held the most which is why I would want blu ray. Thank god I got net flix

I think it's way too early to buy either a Blu-ray or HD-DVD burner. The prices are too high, just like DVD burners were when they first came out. It only makes sense to buy one now if you really need that amount of data storage on a single disc, which makes Blu-ray the preferred format. 50GB dual layer Blu-ray BD-R and BD-RE blank media are actually available, unlike 30GB dual layer HD-DVD blank media.

That being said, it being a Blu-ray player is a reason I purchased a PS3. I'm currently not interested in burning Blu-ray discs due to the costs. But renting Blu-ray movies to watch on my HDTV is nice. Thanks, Netflix!

Even with the popularity of the ps3 in japan hd dvd is still out selling blue ray there by vast amounts.

Gonna have so many question when I get a burner/ player, can you encode and play mpeg2 on a hd disc? (cos you can play dvds on a blu ray player) or just mpeg 4 compatitble, also will there be trouble with hdcp later down the line. Also currently if you buy a dvd burner (or a computer with one) the software that comes with it is usually pretty bad so gonna be looking for the best blu ray burner software as well.

The costs of the discs seem to be relative to dvds, 5 cased single layer dvd-rs giving you around 25GB is about the same price as a single blu ray disc in most places. Though you can get cake boxes which make them nothing.

ofcourse we talking purely space, transfering several dvds to a blu ray wont give the hd quality, unless you can scale it up. From what I've seen of hd so far it works best in documentaries (1080p) and sports (1080i) the anime doesn't usually have a huge amount of detail, and on the older stuff like gunsmith cats or trigun etc what do you think?

lol wut?

Dokool's my source on this - he's seen, first hand, stacks of unsold PS3s taking up corners in plenty of stores. The ps3 isn't that big in Japan at all.

Yeah, thats the same everywhere though, what I mean is that even people who are buying them statistical are not buying blu ray.

Regardless, I think blu-ray is going to win, blu-ray is the better technology, and Sony is great and price slashing really quickly; by the end of the year it will drop to a reasonable price, hd-dvd is an inferior product and theres no sense on using a worst product when we have better.

Besides the prices are practically equal to what the DVD was when it first came out, I think the major reason people arent buying PS3's is because all games go for all systems now (for the most part, sony doesnt hold any mascot games for the PS3 at the moment), X-Box just came out with a "stronger" system and the Wii is dirt cheap so all of the parents are buying it for their children.

At this current rate the X-Box is most likely going to win the game wars, because Wii wont matter in a year or two when everyone realizes all the games on it are the same as they have always been, PS3 will be to busy having the exact same games as X-Box except for more money and X-Box will have the "better" system with some of its own mascot games as well.

Which in saying this means nothing, because you can buy plug-in's for both Blu-ray players on a X-Box and HD Players on an X-Box so when it comes down to it I think people will spend an extra $10 on their DVD videos to get more special features and a CD that wont scratch when you run it up against your CD holder, (which it doesnt, I tested hehe, with a nail).

Anyways; sorry for the rant.

BETA was a better product and we all know how that turned out, don't we.

arent lazer discs better than DVDs? i mean quality wise? they didnt last very long cause dvds are more compact..
