Not really, we haven't had a contest viewing in main programming for a couple of years now. We do have it for the awards showing and will probably use the rest of the time to show fillers like we did instead.AtomX wrote:SailorDeath wrote:They are all held in the amv room.AtomX wrote:Which one of the contest showings is in the ballroom? That's............ a first.

Also, we have the room we had 2 years ago. And it is bigger than what we had last year.AtomX wrote:No kidding :\ If its the same as last year, we're gonna have a MAJOR space issue, even with 3 showings.....Koopiskeva wrote:I really hope the amv room is of good size this time around if both showings are in it.
Not pleased

I am very glad to hear. And I know it wasn't in main programming. But we've always had at least one showing in a much larger room than the one we had last year (in 04 and 05, they were in the AMV room, but the AMV room was much much bigger, and then last year, we had the smaller room, but the contest showing was in one of the larger ballrooms. Get what I was saying now?)SailorDeath wrote:Not really, we haven't had a contest viewing in main programming for a couple of years now. So yes, I am very glad to hear this and thusly I'm not nearly as worried about things anymore. Thank you for the clarification.

Actually Illia Sadri (an fellow amv creator) who was a DH for panel programming loaned us that room for the first showing, because they knew that room was way too small for all the showings.AtomX wrote:I am very glad to hear. After the convention please.
After this year's con I will create threads on the Acen forum and provide a link on these forums as I have done in the past. The message will basically be:
"If you would like to see AMV content at Acen be improved whether that be by getting a bigger dedicated room, a showing in main programming, or new programming ideas please post in this thread"
Hopefully after this year's con people will actually post in those threads and make their opinions known to the AMV staff and the con chairs.

To continue along those lines..
I have said in the past that without feedback and requests it will be harder for us to secure the things we want to improve. We need to prove the demand is there each time we step things up. The things that bother me about that post is not the content but the TIMING.
1) That thread is discussing concern about a lack of space for the AMV contest. This event has yet to take place and the post was made with no knowledge of the room conditions. Will we be full at each showing and turn people away? I certainly hope so because that means we are very popular. These events have not happened yet and we don't have specific numbers/examples though.
2) Internet AMV'ers tend to get wound up about things and I don't want that happening here. Please place some trust in SD and myself. If we were not given a room that meets our expectations we would have brought this up already. I do not want the AMV community to be perceived as whiners and some could take that post that way.
3) Please work through and with the AMV staff in improving Acen's AMV events not on your own. I don't like waking up to a potential "drama" thread. Independent voices are nothing compared to a coordinated effort. Working together we both have have more information about how to best carry out a discourse on this topic with the other Acen staff.
4) This changes nothing for this year. If I was staff elsewhere and happened to see that thread I would ignore it because I am busy working on the current year.

I'm glad some of you are concerned about the room size and are willing to say something about it. But Dan is right and everyone should hold off on it till after the con when all of staff's eyes are glued to forums looking for ways to improve the convention.
I myself will also make some extra effort to try and get the room we had last year for the first amv showing (its a longshot, but I will try) Additionally I am going to try my best to keep a runnind tab on the occupancy of the room every hour throughout the convention to see what kind of space needs that we require. (because if only the amv contest packs the room past maximum occupancy then I'd probably only get a bigger place for that showing)
