Forbidden Love (Escaflowne)
Hey everyone. Just came out with a new video. Escaflowne to the song "As Long as You're Mine" from the musical Wicked.
I worked very hard on this, especially on a lot of lipsync. I also played around a small bit with masking. Please give me your opinion on everything and tell me what you think.

If the link doesn't work search for, "Forbidden Love" "Escaflowne" "Wicked" "As Long as You're Mine"

OH NOES
I SMELL WICKED MEP.
*gets*
There's some seriously good stuff going on this video. Your concept is excellent, most of your scene choices are appropriate. My concerns are with your lip sync, which is only really good towards the end, your experimental (and completely unnecessary) effects, and the horrible quality of your source footage. Definitely fun, and a very good interpretation of one of Wicked's more difficult songs (at least for me). Clean it up and it will go over well with most audiences.

Thanks for the opinions everyone, but how would I go about cleaning it up? I mean my source videos are of the best quality, being DVD's. And as for the lip sync I noticed that with Allen that there are a few parts where it looks like it's being lip sync'd when I didn't mean to do that. But either way, I have no problem reexporting it at a higher quality, I just need to figure out what the best way and codec is to use for this, and to keep the file size down.

It does not appear as though you did any pre-processing on your footage. You should do this:ColddFire wrote:Thanks for the opinions everyone, but how would I go about cleaning it up? 1) Get the latest build AMVApp: This will contain most, if not all, programs you will need for making your DVD source usable.
2) Rip VOBs to hard drive.
3) Index them using DGIndex
4) Take the subsequent AVS file and add filters to get rid of interlacing and temporally smooth the source, and all sorts of other fun stuff. We can help you with what commands you will need.
5) Drop the AVS file into VirtualDubMod and spit out lossless files. I suggest Lagarith as your lossless codec, but some people like HuffYUV. I have used both.
6) Place in your editor and start cutting!
But since you have already edited, I suggest the bait and switch technique. Go back to your project files, and using the process above, make clips equal to the original clips you used (only now, much higher quality). Move the old files far far away. When you reopen the project file, point it to the new files when it asks. Then you should have nice, clean footage to export from. Then:
7) Export in a lossless codec just like the two mentioned above.
8) Place in VirtualDubMod and choose your encoder (most likely Xvid).
9) Link us.

Well, I already have VDub, and I'm fairly certain I have AMVApp. I have DVD Decrypter. I actually used Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 to rip the DVD and I don't remember what file types they are (Not on my comp to check) How do I Index them with DGIndex?
Do I add the filters using VDub? And should it only be the deinterlace filter?
On another note I'm using an unedited source video which means it's the same quality as the DVD itself right now, correct? So couldn't I just export it as a .vob or .avi and then throw it into VDub and add the filters and compress it?

You can preclean your footage before pulling it into Premiere, including a nice crop on the sides to get rid of the DVD borders and scrubbing the video. You can also deinterlace on export from Premiere then pull it into vdub with a script and clean it.ColddFire wrote:Do I add the filters using VDub? And should it only be the deinterlace filter?
Be careful what codec you use when you export. Like Kionon said, the best is to export to a lossless codec then compress. The default setting for Premiere to output for me is the Cinepak Radius codec, and that looks like crap when it's finished. So lagarith and huffy would be the way to go.So couldn't I just export it as a .vob or .avi and then throw it into VDub and add the filters and compress it?
I think the quality got munched a lot with the mpeg1 encode, and you will have a lot more luck with the avi's.
I PMed you a novel, but check here for other tips.
