I can't save my video file!

Post by Karrie » Thu Mar 29, 2007 1:44 pm

In WMM in Windows Vista I just finished my music video but have problem with all the .avi clips that I used. When I export my video file those parts are half green and some are upside down. I know I am not adviced to use .avi clips but I already finished my music video and I want to export it. Besides on my older Windows (XP), using WMM I had no problems at all with this kind of files.
Anyone, please help me!!! How can I make my WMM work with the .avi files so that I can save my video file? :?:

AVI is a container. Some hold video encoded properly for editing, some do not. Your broad statement lacks any indication of which you're using and is therefore of no use in diagnosing your problem.

Have thou tried exportin' and checkin' results? Maybe it's just WMM showin' off shit. Oh and if someone will try to give ya shit 'bout lossless codecs n' stuff, don't listen to them,it has nothin' to do with codecs in WMM..

To be honest I'm not very familiar with all this codec bussiness but I used GSpot to see what are the codecs of my clips:
DivX 5.2.1 (DrDivX106)
XviD 1.2 SMP
XviD 1.0.3
XviD 1.1.0 Final
DivX 4 (OpenDivX)
XviD ISO MPEG-4

But what I am worried about is whether I will be able to ehm... install new codecs on the videos (if that is what I am supposed to do) without having to import them in WMM again and start editing from the begining. Because then the edited music video I've worked on will be lost.

Thanks for all the help!

1) it's called transcoding.
2) you will need to start over again unless there's some sort of magic trick i'm not aware of.

Just think of it as incentive to do things right next time.

yea youre going to have to convert those divx files to huffyuv, but since huffy takes up so much space i doubt you can convert the whole thing...

run them through Virtualdub Mod go to "Video" -> compression -> Huffyuv

Image

use those keys to mark the beginning and ending of the scenes you need.. (since the video is done you should know which ones you need no?)

then see if the "clips" will go into wmm O.o

you shouldnt edit with DIVX it causes alot of problems, and is usually the #1 problem we have to answer in this forum

I think he can act as if he were doing the "bait-and-switch" method, can't he, Bashar?

It would take more HDD space than you've got, thoug, unless you export in parts, which AFAIK, WMM doesn't do.

Yeah, so no. But at least I toosed the idea out there.

The green video is probably a effect of Windows having to switch codecs partway through exporting/rendering. One reason why it's better to convert various source files with multiple codecs to files with a single editing codec for editing.

As for upside-down video, I've experienced it when I've played back a video isn't mod16 resolution (width-wise anyway). I've read of it happening with various DivX and XviD decoders and if people knew exactly why it occurs, someone would be able to fix it. Unfortunately, it almost seems to occur at random for video to video depending on the combination of encoders and decoders with certain computers. Some decoders have an option to flip the video vertically, but it applies to all videos using that decoder and is primarily useful only if everything you playback is flipped.

You can also try to export your movie in smaller chunks, then rejoin them in VirutalDub/Mod (WMM FAQ #3).
