Subtitles for lyrics?
I've started to think about this lately, and even more so after a small discussion with an editor.
So, let's say you have a song in japanese/german/korean/whatever. And you really *do* use the lyrics as a base for the AMV, and the lyrics have importance to the way you edited it all.
Problem; most people won't understand it and will fail to see the deeper meaning without a translation.
So, do you guys prefer if there are English subtitles to the song, directly placed in the AMV, or do you prefer a simple translation on the video profile page?
(sorry if this topic has been made before. I searched but couldn't find anything alike)

x2 on the softsub idea, HOWEVER, I really like the idea of using the subtitles in a really creative way, say as an art element in the actual vid. I guess this really depends on what you are trying to achieve though. If you're shooting for a serious or drama video, then maybe not, but for a fast paced upbeat flashy video, maybe yeah. Could be kinda neat?

Seriously, I like the idea of subs, hard or soft, for translation. Kastles of Sand is a perfect example of where the subtitles are hard but unobtrusive.

I use to do that too, HOWEVER! this will NOT work unless you make a note that the subs are supose to be there, otherwise people like myself will just go 'fucking noob didn't crop the subs' and ignore them, also, make sure the quality is good for the same reason. It can be done, but you have to do it right.

Fansubbers have been doing that for some time now.ZephyrStar wrote:x2 on the softsub idea, HOWEVER, I really like the idea of using the subtitles in a really creative way, say as an art element in the actual vid.
