Would it be alright...
...to make an amv with an anime and song that someone else has already had the idea for and made? I had an idea for an amv, and looked it up on here, and sure enough, someone had already beat me to it. Would it be okay, though, if clearly no plagiarism was present?
Thanks

Why originality is good and all, but it's no obligation and certainly not a rule. Do what you like! Just don't stea the footage and you're fine.Rufellan wrote:...to make an amv with an anime and song that someone else has already had the idea for and made? As far as the question of whether you should or not - I think what most people will say is 'do it if you think you can do it better than what is already out there'.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

If you're worried about the first person's reaction, you can ask them if they mind by email. They don't "own" the combination, but it will at least tell you whether they'll start drama about it later.
If you're worried about the audience's reaction, it depends on whether anyone saw the first one. Most likely you'll just drop a couple of points in "originality," since that's what a lot of reviewers use to determine it. That's all that will happen, probably.
If you're worried about breaking the rules, there aren't any about this particularly.
Good luck!

i have given up on looking up the combinations i think up that way "i dont know" if someone else has made them before... i look them up aftewards sometimes..
it ammuses me when someone makes the same combination as me (even if i thought of it first) and i usually like to watch their version to see how different it is
like the others said dont watch the other first as it WILL effect how you edit either by using the same scenes cause you thought they fit or by avoiding certain scenes so yours is deffinately not the same...

It would be funny if your video ended up the same as or similar to one made by someone else using that same song/anime combo. Similar scene selection, sync choices, and concept even without seeing that other version first. That would be eerie.JaddziaDax wrote:i have given up on looking up the combinations i think up that way "i dont know" if someone else has made them before... i look them up aftewards sometimes..
