If we're planning on sending the file via FTP, should we wait until the FTP is up before submitting the entry form, or is there no correlation between the two?

the ftp is actually up.... I forwarded the info to Julius.... so hopefully he will post it soon. As to how he wants the situation handled, that will be entirely up to him to determine. I'll poke him though to get a quick answer.

I still need to discuss it with Dan to make certain, but with how much I have left to do, the FTP will probably not happen this year. There's just way too much on my plate.

Why not just have someone else run it? I'm sure there's a qualified staffer amongst your ranks dying to take on more responsibility.

I am going to do it.... please read how to do it and if oyu have questions please be gentle on me this week as I have 4 exams and a whole slew of entries for Tekko to grab from another server.

The address is 208.66.172.243. Use anonymous login on port 21. Go into the pub folder. Unfortunately the account is a bit overly locked down so you cannot create a directory. This means upload your entry form and label your video with your name and video title! This will help me sort things out.

There is not a ton of space unfortunately due to the fact the acen server was set up at the last minute. Should this become a problem I will try to clear it as quickly as possible or as a last resort make use of the server I use for Tekkoshocon (I am trying to not have to mix the two contests' entries for my own sanity)

Good luck entering guys. I want to see some good vids in there!

just curious, how the fuck is ftp too much work?
you set up, give upload info, let them upload, download the stuff for judging.

saves time for both you and the editors who would otherwise snail mail them in.

I have an entire room to organize for, people to work with, events to schedule, and write ups to submit for the program book just to name a few.

On top of that I'm a full time student and have a job. I leave for school and work at 11am and I don't get home till 10pm, then I have homework to work on for all my classes. Weekends? I work on weekends. Which gives me very little time to work on anything else.

This week is spring break for me. But its not much of a break. I also have my job to attend to. Although I intend to use my free time this week that would normally be occupied by school to work on the amv events. Illia has graciously reqested she take over the ftp for the amv contest. It may not seem like a lot to do for you, but for me, someone who is buried in work and school, it is.

The PDF entryform will either automatically send an e-mail to Outlaw, or they can print it out for snail-mail. What they should do for FTP would be to use a naming scheme like, "Name-Video_Title-Category.avi" Use the name you put down on your entryform that we'll use in the amv credits so we can bettter identify the amv.

i can sympathize. i goto school 5 days a week, and i work, including weekends.

you have time to deal with snailmail, though?

This thread isn't the place for us to discuss all of our innerworkings but just to clear things up ... Julius doesn't deal with the entries until he watches them with me. Well unless one of you says "my video may be too violent please look at http://***"

As far as managing entries FTP would only be easier if someone paid for me to have a dedicated line physically where I live and I ran an automated FTP box which would name and categorize your entries based on some type of web form interface.

FTP is a convenience for entrants and we understand you guys want this. That is why we are trying to get this setup. Please understand until we have a system in place that we re-use the next year there will be some bumps along the way and we do not want to promise something we cannot wholly deliver.
