Best file format to use for amvs?

It's the best codec pack I've ever used.... That CCCP thing sucks. God forbid I get a fansub to play back with that thing installed unless its your typical divx/xvid avi. Or some other outdated codec. Besides, it's named after the USSR.

The VAST majority of people at this point watch fansubs on YouTube, which completely eliminates the need to download...well, anything really. It's no surprise that YouTube is the best way of showing off your AMV to the most number of people possible. I know teh folks over here don't like it much, mostly because it kinda renders teh org obsolete as far as delivering content and that's important because that's how the .org makes money. Really though at some point the org is going to have to evolve into the 21st century and offer integrated video playback into the site (preferably with higher quality than the normal YouTube fare). If the org doesn't do it, someone else will (maybe even me) and then POOF, this place will fall off the map like the Charas forums did after RPG Maker XP came out and they failed to keep up.

Also if somebody really wants to watch something, he will find out how.

Generally speaking that's the kind of attitude that equals complete and utter failure. I mean imagine opening up a restaurant on the top of a mountain and then saying, "Well if anyone really wants to eat here I guess they'll find a way to get up here." Even if you have the best food on the planet not many people are going to take the bother, you GROSSLY over-estimate people's interest.

boochsack is also the least reliable place to find amvs. True stroy, and a lot of resources to prove it....

Give me a Guide how to convert MP4 to another format that works with really all h264/x264 mp4-vids, then I will completely stop bitching about mp4
theres a very simple way involving avisynth. i'm withholding it because of your ignorance though.

Well that goes without saying, that's why YouTube won't ever replace the .org, but another entity could if it took the video delivery system of YouTube and combined it with the kind of archiving that's done here.

Definitely xvid for me. It's quality is awesome [no doubt about it] AND you've got the highest reachable audience.

.mp4 with .mkv container would be my 'other' format but like said before, I like anyone watching my amvs so...

Bull. VP6 is a piece of crap. Even VP7 doesn't come close to x264. VP7 can probably beat xvid, but it is FAR from being the best codec in existence.
