My first AMV

I know there's subtitles, but I think they fit there to give some kind of plot for video.

Please comment/criticize.

First and formost - no subtitles please. There is no excuse for subtitles. But I'll download and critique.

At least he KNOWS they're bad, most newbies don't even see a problem with them.

It wasn't bad for a first AMV, Ive seen alot worse.
I don't think the Audio fit the vid though. And the subtitles, while they did tell a story It might have looked better without them. or maybe I'm just one of those people who think Subs = Bad.

At least you learned something, I've seen editors who have made 25-30+ AMV's with worse quality than this and still continue to do so.

Are subtitles really that bad? I actually chose to put subtitles in my AMV "Keep Holding on". I guess it works only when you're focusing on one arc, and in chronological order.

Anyway, I'll check out your video now.

yes:

1. they distract from the video (makes a person want to read the subs instead of watch the video) and with a community that has trained themselves to read subtitles its really hard for them to "just ignore them then"

2. it makes your work look sloppy, that is unless the subtitles are for the song you used because you wanted to translate it to another language, or if it adds to the video itself and its something you added in... if they are subs from the show itself or the fansubs, then it just looks like you were too lazy to cut them off, because its so easy to crop them off

3. they are a major pet peeve for some people... (especially ones like me that originally used subbed footage and were bitched at about it for years... and finally cut them off)

It would depend on how you use them. In ~some~ RARE cases they're okay...but it's kind of like a tetradic color scheme...looks really cool if you can pull it off...*IF* you can pull it off.

I used subtitles in this old Hellsing AMV of mine, they worked alright:

But then the song didn't have any lyrics to it.

I would say this about using subtitles...
1. Don't do it while there are lyrics being spoken at the time.
2. Consider leaving in the original audio and maybe don't use the subs at all (would work better with an English dub) but remember to LOWER the volume of the audio track when you do it...even then though it's hard to pull it off effectively.

Eck. That could have been worse. For a first vid, this was ok. It's something I've seen a lot, and I doubt I will watch it again. I agree with what everyone else thinks though. You do have potential, just know that. 2.5/5

Don't expect much, it's not really very good. I made just as a kind of quick overview of the first episode. At one time I was playing with the idea of creating an anime reivew site and then for each series I reviewed I was going to make a kind intro AMV for it...but I never got time to see it through and other projects have since taken priority.
