Likewise I don't see what's so great about NOT downloading a video; given the average speeds here at the .org that let you get pretty much anything in a matter of a minute or two if you're on a good connection, it's both more efficient and gives you much better quality - and you can delete a file in a snap with no consequences if you don't like it. And you don't have to go look for a link if you want to keep it.

Anyway, noone stopping you though. I just highly suggest you BOTH upload a video and, if you're so keen on it, have it hosted on one of those streaming sites.

I guarantee you, it's a lot better to make a good impression with crisp quality of a properly-compressed video than make people guess how good it is from a so-so streaming site.

Anyway, another point: it's considered ethical on the site to at the very least, catalogue all your videos on this site and, when announcing - link to the video description page rather than the direct host.

Because most of us are smart enough to realize that when you watch streaming video you actually are downloading the video. So we figure if we have to download it anyway there's no reason to watch it in at at half size with horrible quality and audio unsynced so much that it appears we're watching bad dubbing from 70's martial arts flicks. That plus the minor fact that the org hosts around 65,000 videos locally so why should we really give a shit what's on some other site anyway? You want to host your videos on the tube then go brag about them on the tube and leave us out of it. Want to host your videos here? Then welcome to it and good luck figuring out the correct forum to pimp your crap in.

The same thing I said about the tube. Animemusicvideos.org has ~65,000 videos locally hosted. Why should we give a fuck what some other site has when there's more than enough here to enjoy? Especially if it's shit on some other site being pimped by someone who obviously hasn't bothered learning what this sites goals are or how it's works.

if you would read into it a little bit, you would find many reasons why we like people to upload videos here.

you see, this site is meant to be a database of every amv ever made...in reality this is pretty much impossible to do, but we have one of the largest (if not the largest) collection.

As is the case with most other works, people try to steal credit for work that isn't theirs. This happens (regretably) on this site, but it seems to happen on other sites (*cough* youtube *cough*) much more frequently. Recently there was some poor soul on myspace (what a suprise) that tried to take credit for creating whisper of the beast.

Next reason, from my experience, the quality of videos on this site is usually higher than what you find on other sites like youtube. Not only in how "good" a video is, but also video and audio quality.
Once you start watching amvs that look better than the dvd that the source should come from...you'll find it hard to watch the small and blocky video on streaming sites.

There is no rule saying that people can only upload videos here, heck, even I have a youtube account.

Now the techinal part...when you watch a video on a streaming site, you are downloading it. The only difference between streaming and normal downloading is that you get to see the thing as you're downloading it...that and you usually can't save a download from a streaming site (at least not as easy as just downloading it), so once you leave the site you have to re-download it.
it is nice to be able to see what you're getting, but that's why you can decide what to download and what not to download.

I tend to avoid videos that have little or no comments about the video by the creator, and ones that say "omg tis es teh bset amv EVAR!!!1eleven! y rnt u dling it now?"
if I don't like a video, I stop watching it.
I have an analogy that relates to your comment, "Why would u dl the video before watching it"
lets say that you are looking for a new anime to buy. Will you refuse to buy something that you can't put into a dvd player at the store? (which bsides not working...is also not a very smart way to go through life)
If you know what you like, and look around a little bit (like look for an anouncement thread with a few responses or looking in the reccomended amv or op exchange sections) you should be able to find something good even without seeing a preview

The amv announcements forum is supposed to be used to announce amvs on this site. you don't go to an electronics store to announce a sale on power tools, it's just common sense, the same thing applies here.
