the company must have blown its budget on the explosive chip eating scene resulting in the current depletion in animation :D

Damn, episode 16 was one hell of a brain buster! :x
Spoiler :
But the gist is that Light planned to "relinquish" his ownership of the Death Note in order to "lose" the memories of any actions he made with it. Now with his and Misa's Death Note gone, their personalities pretty much changed which confused the heck out of L. And the episode ended with more criminals being killed due to Kira's actions which nearly doesn't make sense according to L.
Next episode is going to be a doozy!
Spoiler :
Just what the heck is Light's dad doing in the car?
Misa calling L a pervert and his reaction was pretty funny!

Ah, Death Note. How I love thee. While I stopped watching the series actively when it got licensed, I've read the manga out to where it's been released in the US.

That being said, I'm not sure why some people dislike the next arc of the series so much. Given, it has a different atmosphere than a lot of the rest of the series, but I think that they did it well. The twists and turns are well done and executed with the same style as the rest of the series. I look forward to seeing it when Viz releases it.

What about the buried death note? Can't he still reclaim that? Or does he forget its location?
And very nice, spoiler tags at last.

Do you really want to know the answer to that? The amount of intelligence they give the characters in this anime is kinda ridiculous and inhuman until you realise that the story writer had to come up with these plans him/herself in order to create the story =P

Without spoiling anything, I have to say that I've read the manga, and I liked the earlier parts the best by far. Like end of Volume 4 for the manga, middle of episode 11 for the anime. It's all downhill after that for me. Not that it isn't still enjoyable...

I must say, I've been surprised at how well-done the adaptation is. It's one of the better animes I've seen in a while. There was so much text and internal monologue in the manga, I didn't know if it could be pulled off well in an anime... but it's been done masterfully.

Btw, one nitpicky story-telling issue I have...
Spoiler :
You know in episode 11 when everybody's finding out that there's a second Kira? Why in the bloody hell do they show Light figuring it out first? That's just silly. It's far more dramatic if they show L putting it forth as a theory first and force the viewer to try to figure it out with him. It would create more respect for L and keep the tension up a lot more. Why, oh why would you pass up an opportunity like that and have Light tell the audience before showing L figuring it out? Who's with me and thinks they blew an opportunity?

that would be interesting, having L figure that out.....Light seems to always be ahead of him, so L should get ahead of Light every now and then.....or at least catch up

EP 16 made L look like a bastard and Light and Misa look like the good guys. I can't help wanting L to let them go :\

the reader spends more time with Light, so that isn't too suprising
