have you ever heard the phrase:

"... and speaking of the devil..."

so much worrying about infrigement and org being shut down, that it will end up hapenning sooner than you expected. who knows maybe even this year boy that would be a shocker.

True. Looking on file-sharing networks for stuff (within a certain range, which AMVs don't always cover and vice-versa) is much less complicated than the steps needed to not have to recompress stuff by demuxing the cut MP3/Vorbis or dumping the PCM stream.
I screwed up; I should have specified that it requires a recompression ONLY IF you want to store the song in a compressed format.
As I noted above, for MP3 and Vorbis, it properly cuts the audio making recompression unnecessary. You just have to know frame positions/timecode, just like anyway.

Well, I don't know about any one else, but seeing all these AMVs have either made me rent an anime DVD or buy them. This includes buying DVDs for footage (for AMVs that may never get made, dammit).

Same goes for music. I've bought CDs because of songs I heard in AMVs and have bought a couple of CDs (so far) for audio sources (although the projects have pretty much permanently stalled).

I know that the anime companies tolerate us here. We are both promoting anime in AMVs and hopefully, buying anime DVDs. Since the industry is still fairly reliant on the core fanbase for survival, it would be detrimental for them to crack down on us and possibly alienate a chunk of their customers. It's not like we are distributing entire anime episodes or DVDs.

As for the music industry, well, I'm sure that the RIAA is picking their battles and we are lower on their priorities. Many people don't have or don't want to learn the technical skills to extract the audio from AMVs. Plus, as mentioned, downloading a 50+ MB file just to extract a 5 MB audio file doesn't make sense for most people. I'm not sure the RIAA are ready yet for another round of negative reactions to their usual tactics.

I'm sure that if something were to happen to the org, the distribution of videos would just go back to pre-donut methods or shift to the number of video sharing sites popping up. There is an increasing number of people that use the 'tube for distributing videos (sometimes exclusively). If the anime/movie/TV/music companies can't prevent people from uploading whole episodes or movies (albeit in small chunks), how are they going to stop thousands of fan-made music videos?

actually the amv is usually the first place said person heard said song so it would BE on the hdd already. Otherwise it's rather wastefull... given IF you can find it on a p2p. For instance an original peice, say you actually WANT me singing said song  . Wouldn't happen, but, ya know...

Yes, minion, there IS Originality... just the thought has never crossed your brain... er head

I look at it this way...Being 47 and seeing alot of this crap going on over the years it doesnt make sense to piss of your fan base....no fans no money. And if your not using the original songs from a cd your mp3 that you downloaded isnt the best quality anyway . Let alone downloading your anime from the web. We all enjoy doing this. And if they where to kill this site There just morons who dont even know what an AMV is about anyway. Nuff said from the bleachers. Thanks all
If its not for fun then why do it!

I think everyone should start to worry bigtime when they ban amvs at the cons. Then we had to meet in hotel rooms to show our stuff and have secret contests etc.
