I've used Ubuntu before in the past.
It's cool in some ways, but a lot of simple tasks in windows are a lot harder in Linux. When it came to multimedia, it lacks two major things: decent software and easy support of many file types.

From the sound of it, this project should solve these problems. (I hope)
When it's released I might take a look at it. I kind of doubt I'll see any major reasons to use it over Windows though.

Any idea if there will be AviSynth support or an equivalent of some sort?

Works and has worked for me for years. Can you give specifics?

It depends on what you're used to. I've been editing with
Linux for a few years and it's OK (and file support isn't bad,
I've encoded everything from mpeg-1 and mjpeg to snow and dirac
with the usual suspects included: xvid, h.264, theora, etc). Things
have just gotten better since 2003 but curiously my editing has
become simpler as the tools become more sophisticated. In
any case, I'm sure this distro will be nice, although by no means
is it the first multimedia-oriented Linux distro (there's Agnula,
Debian-Multimedia, and the live-CD Dyne:bolic... I'm sure I'm
missing others).

I've gotta say my biggest reason for not dual booting Linux IS because of creative software and support...I've been wanting to try things such as Blender for years now (made much easier since now it runs on windows and has for awhile) but never really looked at it thoroughly due to having too many unfinished projects in windows softwares. (that and I needed specific software for school/learning my 3d stuff etc.) With this coming out I may just have to give it a try. After seeing "Elephant's Dream," I'm convinced Blender can easily handle what I want to try and do in 3d, and now it looks like we'll have an editing solution.

I'll be watching this with interest :)
