Come on Streicher, let's not be completely averse to any discussion. Sure it's relevant. Of course the FACT that people edit is the most important, but hardware and software alike have a huge influence on what they do.
Plus showing off has always been fine in my book.
And if you're wondering where "all that" hardware is going - in my case, you're right, not all to AMVs. But for example, the processor in my case was definitely obtained with AMVing in mind (it's not optimal for other stuff I do with the PC); the HDs I wouldn't even bother with were it not for AMVing (I had no idea what to do with "all that space", meaning 80gb, until I got into AMVs). But if we look at video card and especially RAM - yea. I play a lot of RAM-hungry wargames/simulators, so that's where that goes. The audio setup is for my music and multimedia entertainment, meanwhile.
It'd be wrong to say, though, that the PC I have is not influenced at all by AMVing. It's at least a 3-purpose machine - an AMVing rig, a simming rig, and a multimedia center. And like many people, I feel very proud when it matches all my desires and requirements

I started this thread actually because to edit, you obviously need computers and with so many diffrent ypes i figured mabye there were horror stories, comments on how hard useing one machine was vs. another, stuff like that
Plus ( for me in perticular ) it shows what some would consider to be a normal ratio of HD space, drive power, blah blah blah. Is this the truth of whats out there and that you need this/that/the-other to edit?
Heck no
But it intresting to read and gives some people reason to dicuss a normally under-apprecated part of the editing process

My current rig is the first one I've ever built. It was also the most expensive things I had ever bought for myself. So handling them, I was obviously "OMG MUST BE SUPER CAREFUL".TheJadeArcAngel wrote: i figured mabye there were horror stories
That said, I someone screwed up my motherboard when putting it in my case, so I claimed it DOA and RMA'd it. Had to get another motherboard. Not only that, but I put the processor in the wrong way and bent a pin. The processor was the most expensive part of the freaking computer, coming to about half the farking budget. I literally went into a state of shock. Luckily after panicking for a few minutes, I managed to bend the one pin back to a normal enough position where it would fit in the motherboard snugly. I almost wasted ~300 dollars(IIRC)!!
Not only that, but during the time when my Motherboard was being RMA'd, I tried to put my old computer back together(a lot of the stuff from there was going in the new one) and it wouldn't boot up either! So I had no computer for about two weeks.
That was the most boring and depressing two weeks of my life. In a sad, "Now you realise how much little of a life you really have" kind of way.
