How do you do these two effects with Vegas?

Well, I'm a newbie to Vegas. I've always used Window Movie Maker, so this is a big difference. I know SOME of the basics and I would love to know a whole lot more.

Anyway, I'm beginning to make a new AMV and two effects would look great for the song. Does anyone know how to:

-Make a "dreamy" affect or a "flashback" effect? What I mean by this is, having glowing, blurred white around the edges of the video like they are having a dream or a flashback of the past. Here is an example: http://z.about.com/d/graphicssoft/1/0/- ... y-01ba.jpg I already know you can do a SOLID white border, but it seems like I can't have it be white AND blurred at the same time.

-Make moving "pictures in a picture" Like having smaller squares move from one side to another on top of a large picture. I know you can have many different unmovable pictures by using the picture in a picture effect under the effect option, but how do you make them move? An example of this would be the beginning of a phenomenal, breathtaking AMV called "Lost Ones" by Reigna. If you've seen it, you'll notice, that even a rectangle flips over and then a different picture is shown than the one before.

Could anyone please help me with this? I will love you for life! Lol. I'm not good with experimenting and sometimes I just need the direction.

well for the first one, use, the effect "soft edge" found in the Border effects,

and as for the picture in picture, use the cookie cutter and add keyframes

OR pan out the video you want and place it where you want, if you want you can refine the PIP by using the cookie cutter to either feather the edges or sharpen them, make the edges cleaner..

As long as it's not pure white (255x3) which tends to over-saturate projectors and other NTSC displays. (See the Help menu for the Broadcast Colors FX.)

About the only place for pure white is on masks/mattes.
