I was posting here before the site was officially re-released so I got a head start.DiemondDagger wrote:Totally of topic but holy shit. SpPanda jesus 96 posts?
holy snizzle but. Even AD has like 64!
How do you do it? Holy smokes.
As for the topic, well I hope that people can start having fun with their amvs. Everytime I hear people talk about ideas others respond negatively. There's a lot of cynicism around here. I can understand anyone who wants to take time out from the online presence of amv making and take it up as a hobby again.
All is not lost.
Of course, if there are amv makers out there who dare to be different and just want to have fun then PM me and I'll give you some details about a potential mini-project where you are encouraged to break the mold whilst not having to spend a million years doing it.
Have fun ^^

I would be all for doing away with the numbers aspect, and just describing what you liked about the vid, personally. I HATE trying to think of what number to give this or that area of a vid. I would be all for changing the reviews so it's just "Good, Bad, General".
Although, I have to admit, creator-only reviews seems a bit harsh. I like it when people, any people, tell me what they thought about my video. I also love getting suggestions on fixing technical glitches. That's how I learn. Feedback. When I made my first vid, I had no idea the waveform existed!! Now, I can't imagine not using it.
I also ALWAYS reply to a review, even if it's just to say "Thanks for the review". Hell, my replies to other people's reviews of my vids are often longer than any review I've given to another vid!!

Again, newbie here, but longtime sufferer of another site - which shall remain nameless - where anyone can post reviews to others' work.
Lame "OMG GREAT JOB!!" reviews pretty much negate the usefulness of that other site's reviews. But I still post my work there. Why? So others can find it and enjoy it. I mean, that's the reason I put my stuff on the web at all, to have it be distributed. Otherwise I'd just leave it on my HD for my own amusement.
In other words, this site is more than reviews. If reviews are the reason you came in the first place, then yes, I can see how that would ruin the site's usefulness. But, IMO, that's not all there is to see here. First and foremost, I find this site to be a great place to FIND other people's work. You may want to consider others, and how they could enjoy and learn from your work, in your decision.
"For God's sake, THINK OF THE NEWBIES!!!"
Just an opinion. Thank you.

*sighs*
This is my view of whats going on.
About 1 week ago, I dropped out of a project with my 2 friends, and decided that I might stop making videos. It was getting tough, both for my life and for my wallet, but then I realized something. There are people out there who actually want to see my videos. There may not be many for me, as I'm new, but there are some. I've made some really great friends here, friends who I'm dying to meet. There are people who go out of their way to give more to their fans, who actually do this for fun. Then there are others who take it so seriously if they have no opinions. I've learned to stop doing that, and let the good times roll. To stop making AMV's for opinion reasons only is a joke. Come on now, so what if the opinions are getting dull, or if the site is going downhill. Who can't say that that hasn't ever happened to them? It's one man, running a site with other 3000 people, and I think he's done one hell of a job. My praise to you Phade.
I can understand the lack of indepth opinions, however there are some who really do give indepth opinions. Mirai MM, MeriC, VegettoEX, etc. give some great opinions, and they are all my friends. They are the counter card of this whole opinion thing.

EK, I agree about this, and my best of luck to you in the future. To all AMV creators, let's give Phade some help, and do our part for this site.I agree that the standard is poor and some reviews I have are very amateurish. I personally think that there are still members who don't quite understand the system (partly because b4 'that' the site lacked an in-depth opinion guide, but now, even it's there, some ppl didnt noticed it.)

Ok,
We make content that's seen by the ~masses~. Those people have a right to respond with how they feel about whatever you produced. I don't see any harm in a person who can't express their affection for your video in more then two sentances.
It's kind of like say Stephen Speilberg. You could ask someone like Roger Ebert to explain why he's so excellent and he would probably give you a detailed in depth review on Speilbergs work. Ask a fan of him and you're going to get something like "He's the greatest director of ALL TIME, HIS MOVIES KICK ASS!". Neither of those are bad reviews, neither of those hurt "the system". If you received a negative review and it only had something like "I hated the song", "Dragon Ball Z is stupid", then that is not a good review and is harmful. If you like something it's nice to be able to drop a line to the creator and say "Good job...". You don't need to act all flustered because someone is a fan of someone else and not you.
If you really want in-depth reviews and only ~inteligent~ ~thoughtful~ people looking at your videos then place at the bottom of the description, "Only special people can view my music videos....", which is plain stupid.
This is alot like how it turned out in the VC Awards, people were posting rabid remarks about "You sheep, idiots for voting for ErMaC, lame fanboys!!!!". The problem is that you're insulting your fan base, and how can the fans be wrong? The each person voted for which video they liked best. That's that... By complaining that someone is ahead of you or you're not where you want to be and lashing out against people is like "Why don't you idiots VOTE FOR ME!?", kinda like "It doesn't matter to me, but I should be at the top.." which is bullshit.
Another instance is when I saw a thread about someone who found a message board with people who were posting direct links to peoples AMVs. These people were being called leeches for spreading the word about others AMVs. I mean, "you're a leech for providing giving me more publicity" <---B.S.
We can't limit who sees our videos, we shouldn't limit people from seeing our works. It's plain stupid, if you don't want everyone to see and possibly comment on it then you should never release it.

Ok, I haven't read EVERYTHING on this forum thread because I'm in a bit of a hurry but I want to put in my 2 cents.
First, I'm getting sort of tired of people complaining about how stupid and fanboyish the people on this site are. I agree with punistation: I don't want this to be a site just for the professionals or just for the fans. This site is for everybody.
Though I definetely much prefer a really in-depth review, the last thing I want for the site is for everyone to become AMV experts who spend all their time reviewing videos, pointing out every little flaw. WITHOUT FANS, CRITISISM IS POINTLESS!!!
I, for one, really apprieciate getting an "OMG GREAT VIDEO!" review. It's confirmation that I've made something thouroughly entertaining which to me, is one of the most important things about the whole job.
