Using *.ppj files in Pro 2.0

Post by Sereenie » Tue Jan 09, 2007 8:36 pm

I have finally managed to get my Avisynth files to work in PP2.0, so I decided that the best way to get used to this new version was to import one of my old 6.5 projects in it.

But it doesn't work.

I tried opening several different *.ppj files both through the Open file icon (when I launch PP2.0) and by importing the *.ppj into a newly created project file. In the first case, I get "An unknown error occurred while opening the project" and in the second one, "The importer reported a generic error."

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a way to get around it?

Thanks!

I'm guessing that it's impossible, just like it was in late 2003 when Premiere 5.1 suddenly and inexplicably failed on me, and I tried to import one of my Premiere 5.1 .PPJ projects into our new copy of Premiere Pro, and it totally failed.

THAT demonstrated the value of saving lossless exports of your incomplete project every so often.

Considering PP's user guide said it was possible to use projects created with older versions, I assumed I was doing something wrong here.

So yeah, I'm happy I also kept my exports! Still, I really would have preferred to keep having access to the projects themselves.

I'm getting more and more disenchanted with 2.0. I just hope it will get better once I really start using it because right now, I'd give anything to go back to 6.5.

... Okay, apparently I missed the part about importing older versions' projects into new projects the first time I read the manual. But you already said that didn't work, so.

Personally, it didn't take me long to vastly prefer Premiere Pro (1.0) to Premiere 5.1, but I already extol the virtues of Premiere Pro enough in other threads on these boards.

Hehe! I think it's my frustration speaking more than anything. I bought the software a week ago and have yet to be able to use it. I've been riddled with problems since the beginning, so of course that will colour my perception.

Besides, it's a little unfair of me to judge it before I've been able to use it fully. After all, I've had to deal with installation problems, plugin problems, importation problems, etc.–nothing that deals with using PP2.0 itself. My mind can (and hopefully will) be changed!

Now, if I could only understand all those project settings... :?
