Dedication or ... ?

Post by TheJadeArcAngel » Sun Jan 07, 2007 7:33 am

Hey!

My name is Michael and this is my first post onto this forum. I have known of a-m-v.org for almost 2 years now but haven't had the courage to actually 'join in' and be a perticipateing member mainly due to the overwheling size of this community - IT'S MASSIVE! @_@. These forums alone seem like they'd take ages to go through, absorb, and be apart of.

Well, I want to give it a shot and this is it because the only way to get better is to talk, communicate, and grow. [/end yammering]

I think the basics of AMV's are tributes, shrines ( if you will? ) to things we love. In the past I've seen some amazing ones ( and now dont I feel horrible for not haveing the authors names on hand? ) and ones that I personally didnt enjoy but still wached all the way through.

I guess I am just saying I am glad a site like this exists and even if it is daunting and a little nerve-wracking I want to try and do my share to add to the community.

Why are we all so crazy?? We ( those who make AMV's ) sit at desks and scour dvd's, the net, old VHS tapes, etc.. for single scenes to fit into mabye 10 seconds of a song and that quest alone could take days. Then we stil have 3 minutes left to fill. My answer? Dedication to haveing fun, showing our abilities, and getting feedback.

: D I hope to see a lot fo what is out there and get better at what I do.

< Also, as I suspect this thread will be locked, I'd like to say thanks for reading and ... doing what yall do! Makeing vids! >

after almost 10 years, its much more then a hobby, its a way of life.. dedication, yes. it takes way too long to edit 3 minute just to call it a simple hobby... if your a dedicated editor then it shows!

as for you being new, yes its a huge ocean of amv editors and amv watchers in here, but we all have fun, new and old alike. As long as you love what you edit/watch, then you'll be glad you joined our little group. ^,^ welcome to animemusicvideos.org

10 years, Addy? Crap, that's a long time.

Yeah, when I first started out with this I was totally oblivious to everything. For about five months, I didn't even know that the .org existed. Then I found it and didn't believe that there were so many people into this activity. Actually, I still don't. It's too unreal to know that all these people dedicate themselves to a hobby that looks so specific at a first glance.

It's only been three years for me (even though I don't think it's such a short time) but I've really had a change of habits. Last year I even held a workshop on digital video editing at my old high school. Me, a whiteboard, thirty two ninth graders and a bunch of computers with the 30-day shareware of Adobe Premiere Pro 2. That was when I noticed that I had actually learned something since I started (not much, but something). Now, sometimes, when I hear a song, I catch myself imagining what I'd do to it and with what footage.

For me, it isn't a "way of life" (yet?) but more of a way to release the stress and give myself a creative outlet, since I'm pretty much inept at other forms of artistic expression (except for a small skill at dancing). The highlight for me, though, is all the people I've met because of AMVs that turned out to have many other tastes in common with me, other than anime.

Anyways, I'm just blabbing here. Welcome to the forums, Mike ^_^
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

XD I got started in Highschool and, well, lets say most of the submissions I was makeing for my Video production class were anime based? I am also ashamed to say none of them were good ... at all ... but it has that camp value to the memory.

I think I like con's most when you get to meet all the people who come out and make videos, show them, all that stuff ... its sheer awsome (

As for the song bit ( thinking 'What would I do with THAT?' ) I am the same and I can imagine countless others are as well.

Thanks for the comment BTW

:D most excellent ... 'IT BEGINS' ... er ... um ... "Hi and thanks for the response" ..... ^________^'''

I got to meet some awsome folk at A-Kon 2 years ago ( me'thinks that was the year Roll The Stamped got an award for 'very Bootyfull Christmas' as it had been asked for again and again for a repat showing? yea, those guys rocked and I always love seeing what/how other people edit. It's just a form of expression thats almost impossible to be the same from person to person.

For once someone gets it more or less right without pretension :D

To me it's not so much ability or feedback as the idea of doing-something-that-I-think-would-be-cool-to-do for no reason in particular. It's called a hobby. That said, I enjoy the creative aspects of AMVing and the community aspects along with it. I think it wouldn't nearly be half as fun if AMVing wasn't interactive if I dare call it that.

Personally I don't find it all that crazy. Sure there's effort and knowledge involved, but compared to the more some other appointments, the effort-for-satisfaction ratio is much higher in AMVs.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

My fav' moment aside from knowing I *FINALLY* completed a video was the look on peoples faces of "oooooooh dang' or 'that was awsome'. I guess if I was arrogant I'd say it's a vein thing but I dont think its any diffrent from when an athelete scores a point for his team or when somebody delivers a speech they've been working on and gets a standing ovation?

In the end *I* like getting better. I look at the stuff I did when I was, what, 16? All I had to work with was DBZ taken of Cartoon Network on VHS tapes and some seriously creepy editing systems. Now I am fortunate enough to have nice equipment and dvds to play with and its a serious kick to show people what runs through my imagination when I take _____ ~ song and _____-~ anime.

AMV'ing is about as awsome and rigerous an art form as I think there can be ... besides of soccer ( :: bad joke if anybody gets it )

Don't put too much hope in it, This will not get you any money for college nor will it help you to get laid.

KonoE Studio, I will not give good ops because you put in effort. Quality in terms of artistic touch is what I look for.

<_<_> ironically? I am going in for an editing degree so, my vids are just practice work for school and my FCP work essentially. As for the other part I'd hope the only reason I was laid was because my fades and cuts were awsome.

@_o I'd feel cheated and dirty

Besides, wouldnt that be kinda creepy to have somebody come up to you and say "The way you apply lens lairs really revs my motor"?
