How do you cut sound from clips?

Are you trying to remove or isolate a specific sound from an audio clip? Like (1) removing the vocals from a song to make a karaoke track? Or (2) extracting just the speaking part from an audio clip (in other words, removing everything except the voice)? Or (3) do you want to remove the sound from a video entirely?
If (1), then you can do this by either using software like Vocal Remover or by using Audacity as detailed here.

If (3), and you are using Windows Movie Maker, then move the audio levels slider to the far right. Example here. For other editing software, please specify.
