Try uninstalling FFDShow and install CCCP from http://cccp-project.net
But loading the MKV into Vdubmod probably won't work; stick with directshowsource

http://x264.nl/ has the proper ffdshow builds - as in current, and have both the VFW interface (seriously comes in handy because of the MJPEG and HuffYUV-YV12 encoders moreso than the decoding capability) and regular DirectShow decoder.
ffdshow's VFW H.264 decoder obviously only works with H.264-in-AVI (or MKVs that use VFW-mode, but I've only come across a handful of those - and most of them were ones I encoded before ~Nov 2005 rather than found online).
To load it through DirectShowSource, it's just the regular ffdshow video decoder that needs to be set to decode H.264.

hmm i downloaded the ffdshow beta there and it still doesnt work. i still get the same error when i open the mkv. when i use DirectShowSource via avisynth it says it cant be opened.
As for the setting the decoder to decode H.264, i went into Vdubmod's compression settings and configured the ffdshow, but i dont think i did it right. I just clicked the decoder tab and set the H.264 to "libavcodec"

That's correct for the VFW. You need to go into the regular video decoder area (Start->Programs->ffdshow->Video decoder configuration) and select it there.uP|iN|fLaM3z wrote:As for the setting the decoder to decode H.264, i went into Vdubmod's compression settings and configured the ffdshow, but i dont think i did it right. The rule of thumb is, if you can play the file in Windows Media Player, DirectShowSource can open it. So to use DirectShowSource, make sure that it plays alright in WMP (preferably 6.4) first.
If you right click on the file and go to Properties, are there tabs meant specifically for Matroska? If so, copy/write down the stats from the 'Matroska Info' tab and paste them here.
