Actually, they've already started happening.

It has already happened. I was suppose to (if I was content with it) release my Ergo Proxy video in 720p. I hated the video and wasn't even going to release it at first. I'm currently working on a original art project in 720p. As well as a amv in 480p. Or rather its not really HD but a R2 dvd. That I scaled to broadcast resolution which is 848x480.

As for 1080p projects... I doubt we will see those for a while. Since 9 out of 10 systems have huge problems with it upon playback. Also The file sizes would for 480 and up distro video's would be insanely large for people who will encode with for instance "xvid" or even "wmv". On that last note dos wmv even support HD reso's? Anyway for the HD revolution to kick in. H264 would have to become a little more user friendly. As for now the only people who mainly use it are people who actually get into it. You could say that this upcoming revolution is a cleaning of the noobs.

HD dictatorship for the win 8-)

i might be eating these words in 3-5 years, but the world isn't ready for HD, and it will likely not dominate the video market.

I am!

...but AMVs are not one of the things that would be high on my priority list for things I want in HD.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

HD is quite useless for about every anime show released until now.
The demand on the PC performance for editing/encoding/playback(!) just does not justify with the slight image quality improvement. Anime is just not detailed enough to need those high resolutions.
What kinda makes sense to me is to use HD RAWs instead of SD RAWs and scale them down to SD for release.

Not only that it does, but it had also made its way into the specs for HD-capable standalone DVD player.

I don't see much sense in HD AMV's now. In the moment it's still too much hassle, either editing, compressing to acceptable filesizes or playback.

So if you plan to make a HD-AMV, release at least a SD-version too.

And as second thought - is there really that much real HD-anime out? I mean that one released by the companies, not fan-made upscaled DVD-rips.
